Listen, brotha, this statement is largely BS !! I made the massive mistake of buying the MPD32 about three months ago and it is about to form part of an exchange for an MPC shortly.
The MPD offers a whole host of problems once you have it, from not syncing with your software properly through to having the most appealing functions, such as Note Repeat and Tap Tempo Buttons, completely non-functioning in any workable way. I use d my Mpd32 with Cubase SX3 and it did not like the arrangement at all ! Forget all the present templates on the MPD32 - they don't do sh.tte, literally ... you still need to go global and edit the arse out of everything to get so much as half of the functions set up. Then, after such tedious hard work, you sadly discover that the timing on the unit is next to useless, with the responsiveness of the pads triggering somewhat sluggishly and not immediate to your tap/strike.

Just avoid any of these Akai drum controllers like the plague, man ... and save yourself some money.
One of the other poster said it right when he stated that with a proper MPC, you can use it in the studio, with your daw and out on the road ... and it doesn't depend on a whole host of syncing and internal setting up headaches that you get with the MPD's ....
Listen most that comment on the MPDs here have no damn experience of the things and just regurgetate the sales speel on them that they have read somewhere. Don't listen to their crap .... just don't do it !!

Get yourself a 500 or 1000 and enjoy yourself properly.

As regards the MPD32 : DON'T DO IT, DON'T DO IT, DON'T DO IT, DON'T DO IT ... DON'T YOU DARE DO IT !!!!!

Ok, regarding the MPC500 : Hell most definately 'yeh' ( but try and add a few more dollars and get yourself the better 1000 { I did } ).

Right, to qualify my outburst over the MPD32. I bought one of these shi.te buckets like a right mug ! I was taken in by all the marketing hype that it gives you the functionality of an MPC ( because of the Note Repeat and Tap Tempo features amongst a few others ). What the gumph omitted informing you about was the sheer and utter frustration you would encounter trying to get the thing to function half decently, or so much as trigger in time accurately ! Oh, the Tap Tempo and Note Repeat cannot be used at the the same time as one is set to external and one internal.
You will waste countless hours trying to sync the unit in any real workable way also, despite all those so-called ready to use out of the box presets. Like Lampdog stated an MPC the MPD is not and, I would add, it will never be !

I sold my MPD after 9 wks of grief and put the money to a real MPC1000 ... so thankful that I did and I haven't looked back since. Oh, don't forget that you can use all your MPC functions to control your VSTi's fawlessly too ... and it's far simpler to set up than the MPD range any day of the week !

Good luck.
