I searched for this thread, but couldnt see nuthin. So what was the best record you ever got at a Garage Sale or at the Flea Market and how much. I got 1977 ORIGINAL episode 4 starwars, original jaws soundtrack, and a chicago boxed set for 5 dollars TOTAL. I really think garage sales are the place man, they always want like a dollar o two a record. So whats the best youve got em for?

Some of the best samples I use come from mostly the bargain bin whether it be the thrift store or garage sale. I don't know why but its just me. I spend a ton of money on records and the ones I get for cheap always have something I'm looking for.

This is a long story...sorry.

I was at my buddy's new house last Friday night for a little get together. While we were all out chillin' by the pool drinking he mentioned that the previous owners had left several boxes of records in the garage, and that his girlfriend had been trying to sell them to friends, family and neighbors for a buck a piece. I figured they were mostly crap but I explained how I've been collecting for years. And I described how one of my favorite things to do is on a Friday while working from home. I'm on a lot of conference calls during the day. So what I do is mute myself on the call and grab a handful of records that I've never listened to, and I clean them up. Then I put them in a new insert, and and slap on a new protective plastic cover. Once I've cleaned up a few, I set them aside for that evening and listen to them while I make dinner and have a glass of wine.

While I'm telling this story I can see him getting really excited and he goes, "Let's go through them now!" So we all go out to the garage and start pulling out records. And it turns out the previous owner left him with a fantastic collection. It wouldn't be a collection of stuff you guys would probably want, but for someone who's never really listened to vinyl and just wants to enjoy it, it is the perfect collection. It included large numbers of records from individual artists like David Bowie, Beatles and Queen, as well as a huge selection of late seventies and eighties albums. It was just amazing.

I told him I'd buy the whole set off of him and that he could always have it back if he wanted, but please don't sell the records off for a buck anymore. At that point I realized I'd just gotten him really excited because he started asking me to hook him up with a turntable and his girlfriend looked at me and said they were keeping them. So I set him up with a cheap Numark turntable that was sitting in my garage. I put a new needle on it and cleaned it up. He was listening to records yesterday evening while cooking dinner :)

Fobe swap meets in SoCal ain't gonna dry up any time soon as long as Mexicans and thrifty white folks exist. Even with self induced spot blowing.

And yeah I should ask my 'Burque homies what the diggin' is like out there.

at swap meets (especially down there) is there any issue with vinyl sitting out in the blazing sun?

the other day I stopped at a garage sale and they kept the record boxes under the main table in the shade... I couldn't go through them all due to time etc.. I had to go but it sucks cause it was all 45's. some were worn in a bit, because the lady said she ran a diner for many years and all those came from the various juke boxes she had over the years... however there were some actual decent stuff that I saw.. I only got to grab 2 out of the couple hundred I had time to sort through... 20 cents a pop. why not.. one was a commodores record. Not much on there I would sample, but it was cool getting it.

Yeah why not. I believe adding sour cream at a taco chain is about the only other thing on earth for 20 cents.
