This is a long story...sorry.
I was at my buddy's new house last Friday night for a little get together. While we were all out chillin' by the pool drinking he mentioned that the previous owners had left several boxes of records in the garage, and that his girlfriend had been trying to sell them to friends, family and neighbors for a buck a piece. I figured they were mostly crap but I explained how I've been collecting for years. And I described how one of my favorite things to do is on a Friday while working from home. I'm on a lot of conference calls during the day. So what I do is mute myself on the call and grab a handful of records that I've never listened to, and I clean them up. Then I put them in a new insert, and and slap on a new protective plastic cover. Once I've cleaned up a few, I set them aside for that evening and listen to them while I make dinner and have a glass of wine.
While I'm telling this story I can see him getting really excited and he goes, "Let's go through them now!" So we all go out to the garage and start pulling out records. And it turns out the previous owner left him with a fantastic collection. It wouldn't be a collection of stuff you guys would probably want, but for someone who's never really listened to vinyl and just wants to enjoy it, it is the perfect collection. It included large numbers of records from individual artists like David Bowie, Beatles and Queen, as well as a huge selection of late seventies and eighties albums. It was just amazing.
I told him I'd buy the whole set off of him and that he could always have it back if he wanted, but please don't sell the records off for a buck anymore. At that point I realized I'd just gotten him really excited because he started asking me to hook him up with a turntable and his girlfriend looked at me and said they were keeping them. So I set him up with a cheap Numark turntable that was sitting in my garage. I put a new needle on it and cleaned it up. He was listening to records yesterday evening while cooking dinner

Sometimes I still laugh out loud about the beat kangz and that time some English dude hacked the Akai marketing website and stole a bunch of pictures of the Ren before it was released.
