in response to this...

never had intentions of doing a black exterior, because that can be attained via your average flight case company.

in building my most recent flight case, however, i tried out a black stain that isn't half bad. so maybe for the future.

hi, yeah there is a trunk style, recessed finger latch. it is a very handsome latch and compliments the builds size and feeling of a very tight fit.

to my surprise, it seems as if people actually want a bigger case!! it blows my mind, as i don't get it! no offense to those who want the larger case. i suppose the mpc1000 can feel like an inconsequential piece of hardware, due to its small size. we all know the 1000 and upwards(no offense to the 500's) are actually beasters... aka they pack a big punch.

so that said, i understand why someone might appreciate a bigger case. i am from new york city, born and raised... space (or lack thereof) has been an omnipresent part of my life. when i write, record, and rehearse in my studio i am usually looking for ways to consolidate or simplify my set up. and then when i go to pack up my mini cooper for a gig, i REALLY think about how to consolidate or simplify. maybe it's living in new york. maybe it's driving a mini. either way, i want as much space as possible... i haven't the room for excess. :<

like i said, people seem to be interested in a slightly bigger case and i am executing a larger build as things move along. the next incarnation will be finished within a week or two and photos will be posted to detail the changes.

again, all those interested: erik AT erikino DOT com

Sorry but this is wrong. They are essential to the overall structure of the case and should it get dropped on a corner the case will most likely fail or be damaged beyond repair. I cant understand the purpose of a flight case that puts aesthetics before protection?

Also you don’t have to use a huge ball corner they are available in an array of sizes and there are different styles that are less bulky. They are also pretty reasonable to have made to your specs.

One more thing, what about a handle? How would this be carried? Without a handle it will most likely be picked up by its sides and placed flat during shipment. This would leave the most surface area exposed and with no additional support and nothing to protect the ends items would rest directly on the case. With ball corners the case does not rest flat on the ground and flat objects cant lay directly on it. If this is going to be marketed as a flight case it needs to be durable first and pretty second. Right now its just a storage case. Not trying to tear apart the design but in this case aesthetics should not be the priority.

Thanks for the feedback/criticism.

For the record: The "M10FltCse" is a road case.

In other words, this case is not intended to be passed through customs at JFK, as you make your way back from your world tour. (yes, that was a joke) I thought this might be obvious or understood given the nature of my one man operation, and all the write ups that I did. So I apologize if some were under the impression that groups like the Roots would be using my case, as they embarked on their next european tour(yes, that means they would be replacing Questlove with an mpc1000 because my case is such a pristine piece of wood and metalwork)... that was also a joke.

For all those looking for something to throw under the plane... look elsewhere. Structurally, this case is built to meet the needs of someone who is going from studio, to the road, to the venue and back and not much more. Of course, each case is hand built so customizations practically come with every case. That said, if you like the case but feel as if the case needs further reinforcements, I would be happy to add as many pieces of steel as it takes to ease your mind. That was a bit of a joke, but not really a joke... If no one wants the case, I won't have the case to build. So tell me what you want and let me build it for you.

In response to the ball corner criticism... I realize that everyone needs/wants ball corners. I will continue looking for the right ball corner to use and if I cannot find one that already exists, I'll cut my own. It should be noted that, in the prototype build I used steel corner braces on the interior of the box to protect the framework. I realize that the wood could still potentially get chipped, but take a look at these corners...not much wood is exposed. I understand the purpose of the ball corner... but in my case, the ball corner doesn't add much structural support when the edging runs close to flush and the interior corner has a burly corner brace.

As for handle, there is a "finger latch" on the model shown. on future models it will be a larger two finger latch or maybe even the almighty handle. With luck, by the time i'm finished my flight case will be bigger, heavier, and uglier than anything out there. Just kidding, of course.

Regarding how the case lays with or without ball corners... i will PM you.

So do you work for them or are you a customer

I dont Know the previous contributor, but I do work for the company. Trifibre have been manufacturing cases since 1981 and are the largest conbined case manufacturer of its type in the UK of, employing 51 people in 2 factories.
We do have a 'Price Match policy' (only for equivalent products produced in Europe) and in 80% of cases our price is lower and our quality is exceptional. Please try us http//:www.trifibre.co.uk

This is my first contribution, I hope I have not broken any rules.
