2k's were a downgrade and wasn't there more 2k's made ?
It does more than a 60 so probably should be more expensive.
Do you really need to ask about the modern ones(1k,500,etc.) ?

Sample quality my friend. Same reason the sp 1200 still rake in some dough. The thing has been left out in this discussion is the Mpc 3000 is based of the 3000 series samplers, 2000 xl is still a 1000 series sampler. Functionally the Xl and Classic 2000 win hands down in my opinion. But the 3000 slays when it comes to sound quality and sample playback. Sample a 808 kick into an xl, then sample the same kick into the 3000 and the difference will be clearly understandable. I agree with the comments above sequence on the xl and get a s3000 midi'd up to it...

I suppose it depends how you look on it. The hardware got cheaper, but they added more features mostly in software.
This came at the expense of usability IMHO.
The 60 does what I need and I didn't want the extra features clogging up the menus :)
I totally see your point if you like using the filters and stuff or need the memory.(hey, isn't 640k enough for anyone  )

the 3000 is an older machine then the 2000xl, plus the price was double when it was brand new. older = more rare.. however the 3000 was a true upgrade to the 60. I dont think the 60 has any features besides 12bit that the 3000 doesn't have. I dont even consider 12 to be a feature.

tell me about it... I am still trying to keep my eye peeled for an 8-outs board.

I know how you feel.Got my 60 last year for a reasonable price but I still need SCSI, memory ,backlight and new tact switchs.
I've been trying to do it all so I end up spending less than I would on a current model but it's getting hard now all the parts are dissapearing.

Do you prefer the 2k ?
Having 4 MIDI outputs was really important for me, so I never considered the 2K.

well i think its all persoanl opion i bought it cause of sampling an more space for sounds...i miss having four midi outs and ins but i dont really need them all now.but i think its a nice upgrade becuase it felt like the 60 wasnt a challege anymore.it can only do so much.

HOw come you didn't get a 1K ?
MOst people I know that want the extra sampling time and filters and stuff aren't bothering with the older machines and getting the 1k.
I think the 2k's look better built.

It sucks how companies always take away somethhing you want when they give you upgrades.
Seems like all the MPC's have something good about them the others don't have.
The Roland TR drum machines are like that also.
