Yep... I bought an internal SCSI DVD drive off of ebay and I'm gonna swap it to my external SCSI case.

Okay, but why? Obviously, you cannot burn DVDs with the MPC. Now you might find a compatible DVD drive but it would be operating in CDROM mode. Remember there was no such thing as a DVD when the MPC operating code was written. So your MPC will think you have a CDROM drive hooked up and it will act exactly as if you did have a CDROM drive hooked up. They are functionally equivalent and there is no reason to use a DVD drive over a CDROM drive unless someone gave it to you for free.

doesn't a dvd hold alot more information than a cd-r..

Hmm interesting I did think about what you have said above in that last post. Can anyone clarify?

Also I got my scsi cd drive through today and it seems like it's incompatabile? (I say this because the slot on the back is wayyyy to wide for my scsi cable?) ... So does anyone have a list of compatible scsi cd rom drives for the MPC2000XL? I looked on the net but I can't find anything.

Also i've checked out the scsiforsamplers site and seen the cd rom/ hard drive/ zip drives dual drives and wondered if anybody else uses them?

Anyone... please?

just do the card reader mod..it cost me 11 dollars and now my xl is 1 gig ready..

I mentioned a dvd reader since most music magazines and sample companies have gone to DVD's as their media choice (as long as the samples are 16 bits the MPC can read them). I went the external SCSI DVD route just because of this and still be able to use both cd's and dvd's. Plus the SCSI DVD's are dirt cheap on eBay now. It was a no brainer.

AKAI used to have a .pdf file on thier website to show compatible SCSI cd drives but I can't find it anymore.

I had the Smart & Friendly SCSI CDRW drive (the MPC can't burn cd's) and it worked fine for me.

What kind of SCSI connection do you have on your external cd drive?

Hey thanks for the above. I've since bought a new external cd drive because mine was incompatible. Although now I have a new problem started in another thread (which you're more than welcome to try and help with!)...
