re: loops pop when recorded

Yes man I'm having the same problem on my brand new MPC1K.
This is the first beat I've even made on it. Very dissapointing. Slightly different from your case, I am getting a pop at the end of each sample rather than the beginning. Just as you say it sounds clean in trim mode but as soon as I exit and hit the pads each one pops at the end and is audible in the sequence. No amount of further trimming has any effect and I've tried discarding all the excess to insure that my samples start at 0 and end at 0. I haven't tried messing with the decay or normalization but I doubt that will help and besides who wants to do that every time?

I hope starting this topic over again will net more results/input from other users.

I just got my MPC and i noticed exactly the same thing. Looks like I'm going to have to edit all my samples in Soundforge or something. Hopefully Akai will fix this.

another one! welcome to the popping loops family! the new os is supposed to stop it but i noticed it after i upgraded 1.05, which is really messed up. i am still yet to figure this out.

There are also pops on some of the internal presets, if you can believe that.

So if this seems to be a universal problem I wonder if I should just return my 1k and get a 2kXL before it's too late. The only problem is that I'm not sure they are still making the 2KXL new so I would have to get a used one off Ebay or something. Has anyone experienced the pops with the 2kXL? I contemplated buying a MPC for over a whole year and finally took the leap and now this sample pop problem is killing me. I just want something solid that works. Is that so much to ask? Anyone wanna buy a brand new MPC1000 with 128 memory upgrade new in box? Anyone wanna sell me a MPC2000XL?

I would be running to another MPC if I had those problems, but first try a few exchanges to see if I get a good one.

sometimes I just dump the sample back in Cool Edit and then re-save it to the MPC and it fixes it...not guaranteed to work every time but it has worked...try it and see if it helps peace

I haven't tried messing with the decay or normalization but I doubt that will help and besides who wants to do that every time?

normalize will just boost the gain increasing the loudness of both the sample and the pop

decay may mask or eliminate the pop .

double check in the trim mode zoom and make sure your zero- crossings are even
