Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

I dug-out my old 2k last night to show someone who's only ever used a PC to make music just how simple, portable and (above all) reliable an MPC is to use ...and, of course, the bloody thing didn't work!

Anyway, it keeps giving me a SCSI CONFLICT ID#6 error message. I've checked all the terminals on each end of the SCSI cable and both of the devices (an Iomega Zipdrive and the 2k) and everything looks perfectly OK. No amount or combination of turning each device off and on or plugging-in/unplugging has helped in the slightest. It happily loads data off the built-in 3.5" drive and the Zipdrive (and disks) work with other devices ...so I'm at a bit of a loss.

HELP!

Try setting the SCSI ID switch on the back of the Zip drive to 5 and that should fix you right up. Right now, you have it set to ID 6 and that is causing a SCSI CONFLICT ID#6 error situation. The MPC has its own SCSI ID number and that is set to 6 as well, so both devices cannot be on ID 6. And no amount of turning on or off the devices will change those ID numbers...

How about hammers. I'm quite good with hammers

...and mallets.

:D

Seriously, thanks for the help. I'll report back when I've unpacked it all and given it another go.

By default MPC is set at SCSI #6.

For other SCSI gear, use any number other than 6.

Worked a treat! Thanks mate. If this wasn't a virtual world, I'd kiss you.

Actually, seeing as it is a virtual world - bend over... :D
