Take out the pads that are already in your MPC and spray paint dem joints whateva color u want!!!! I think this is probably a cheaper and more flexible solution with more color options (ANY color you want).

The only catch is, I don't know the proper type of paint that should be used on the pads. I remember a while back someone on these forums custom-painted his MPC1000 pads black. I don't know what kind of paint he used though.

You sure he didn't just buy the black 1000 pads? Those have been out for awhile now and painting the pads would probably result in the paint not drying all the way, cracking or peeling.

the red pads look too bright though... something tells me you'd be seeing blue squares every time you spent time on your MPC and then looked away.

I think the MPC that I remember was Poundaproblem's customized MPC. It has black pads, knobs, buttons, and side panels.

That was the first time I've ever seen black pads on a MPC1000. At first I thought he custom painted them but after tracking down the thread that I saw it in and rereading it, he really didn't mention that he painted them himself and I didn't know about the custom pads at MPCStuff. So you could very well be right. Maybe he didn't paint them. Do you think the pads at MPCStuff with the custom colors had the paint "baked" on or painted with some kind of special paint coating using a specialized tool and process that would prevent the paint from cracking and peeling after extreme usage? If so, then maybe spray painting isn't such a good idea. I never really thought about that.

This is a little off topic but while I was tracking down the MPC with the black pads, I ran across this MPC in the same thread:

That is by far the best silver/chrome MPC I have ever seen. Very professional looking. Akai should've made them stock like that!!!! Love the silver knobs too. Nice job, nyke.

Oh yeah and this white MPC1k with the tilted screen by The Grublet:

I don't know this for sure, but my opinion is that those color pads were already the color they are before the molding process! These colors are not just on top of the pads, the colors go all the way thru the pads! Also clear/transparent is not really a color that can be painted.

There are some spray paint products on the market made for rubber and plastic, but I have a gut feeling the paint wouldn't last on rubber pads with all the tapping and moisture/sweat/acidity in your fingertips! Some type of sealer would be needed over the paint, which would probably make the pads hard!

Spending $25 dollars seems the best and easiest way to go, also less time consuming! Black, white, or transparent should go with any design! IMO

i painted a set of grey pads for my 2k black a few years ago. I used some "rubber spray paint" with a rough texture lol

looked cool at first, but yeah, the shit ended up cracking and peeling real fast.

ended up buying real black pads.

now i have a set of black, a set of grey painted with cracked black paint, and a set of original grey

curious about those clear pads though

Yep. Tru dat!!!

[EDIT]
After reading the last three posts above this one and the one below this one, it appears that buying the $25 pads are actually the best way to go. $25 ain't much.

What no "Glow in the Dark?"

That was what i was hoping for. Something i could leave under a 100watt bulb and then see in the dark onstage.

Anyway, i am waiting to see how these look on someone else's 500 or 1000blk before i do it my self, but it is tempting.

As for the "Clear" ones i think those are supposed to look like the MV8000 pads without the little lights below them.

You must be thinking about some other gear! Neither of the MV models
(8000 or 8800) have lights underneath the pads! :D

I guess if they did have lights... the clear pads would be the one's to get!
