chek this numark vid he talks about the same thing wanting a onscreen mpc wth the same interface that u can use a controller to maipulate, he also speaks of wishing that akia would talk to the artists more about what they require.

it occured to me that what he speaks of is percisely what the beat thang adrresses as far as speaking to the user and integrating the suggestions into the product and also having a hardware unit that is mimiced on the screen, so u can control it using physical buttons and that u can disconnect and carry on working on the beat u made on screen.

I'd like to see them create a MPC styled Midi Controller/Hardware Sequencer without a sampler. I see it with a USB/Midi port, (2) Midi ins, (8) Midi outs & one mono audio out for the metronome. I bet they could make these way more cost effective than the full fledged sampler versions and it would be the perfect solution for those that want MPC's for sequencing but don't really need or want sampling. They could call it the MPD 48 or MPD 64.
Basically I would like it to be an MOTU Midi Time Piece AV crossed with an ASQ-10 and an MPD 32.
I would want nothing more. (Just Kidding)

The MPC2500 was in my MusiciansFriend.com cart for a few days, because it was the cheapest I could find. I forget what price that was, but when I went there today, it showed some message saying the price had been lowered since I added it, from $1,399 to $1,299. Not only that, but it seems to come with free 25-key USB controller, and maybe headphones.

I was going to order tonight. We're 1 week away from that Sep. 13th show. The MPC2500 is out of production, and apparently MusiciansFriend just slashed the price, maybe to get rid of what inventory is left. That might mean nothing, or maybe they know something we don't. Like maybe Akai is going to surprise us with a MPC3500.

That's the best they can do? How about a 6000 then?

I was hoping for updated specs. Keep the hardware compatible with the 2500 so JJ OS will still run, but increase polyphony to at least 128, resolution to 960, bitrate to 24, RAM to 1GB, SD instead of CF, etc. Then only minor tweaks are needed to the OS, all the old stuff still works, and the MPC is closer to PC power.

Thing is, how much will AKAI want this backward compatibility ? Its great for us as users to have a Frankenstein product (1 bit of hardware/custom software), sure, but we're talking about a possible new official product. I can't see AKAI doing too much to keep that compatibility with the 1000/2500 in any future models.

Which is a shame - as frankly, there's no comparison between an mpc 1000 with JJOS 2XL/0S2 and an mpc 2500 with the standard OS. After a good few months of both, the former blows the latter out of the water. But without being pessimistic. I cannot see the JJOS traiil going any further than where it is. AKAI aren't going to release source code for the hell of it.

They'd be far more interested in trying to recoup money lost on the mpc 5000 and from what I can see - the combination of JJOS and a 2500 has been a factor in the mpc 5000 maybe not selling as well as it should. Let me put it another way - if it wasn't for JJOS I'd have bought a 5000 by now.

I'm not sure spending even more development time and resources on improving bitrate and resolution makes bussiness sense. Anything that brings it closer to PC power will just bring it closer to PC price...

Whereas I still see there is a market for a portable product with decent pads, an OS rewrite, decent (louder) output and a screen display bigger than an LCD watch.

Mark.

I don't know what will happen, but I'm looking forward to see if anything pops up at the conference on the 13th...not holding my breath though!

honestly, the more i think about it, i dont really want anything much diffearnt than what i got (mpc2500 + jj os); really..........the only thing i could really ask for is for akai to support/use jj os, fix all the bugs, plus add the handful of features requested by jjos users - the features that might be limited by hardware specs........features that would tottaly put the icing on the cake (im not talking crazy non mpc features). plus maybe upgrade the hardware so it lasts for 30+ years, like scrap the plastic sides (make it all metal) and add usb hosting for usb sticks. Basically take the mpc2500 + jjos and make it a beast

I dont want anyone to take the mpc and make it something its not, ya know?

Some of those features might require a hardware update, but i guess what im saying i dont want akai to tottaly re do some operating system to only half ass it again. i want a matured os with support and room for all the features we request.

i dont want a super machine (half daw, mpc, synth crap), i want my mpc to do exactly what it does, and i want it to do it the best. ya know what im sayin?

oh............i forgot one thing, "custom grillz" would be awesome too!

I think it would be nice to see a scaled down version of the 2500, like a 1000 with 8 outs, flip screen, etc...but that will never happen :(

So there was no announcement to anything on their lineup? I haven't seen anything yet...
