Fung45 wrote:I'm not hating. I was using sarcasm to point out the humor in your thinking the more experience/higher skill level you are, the more on beat you will play. Ever heard of a break beat? Ever heard Miles Davis play the Trumpet or Thelonius Monk on the keys? What about Idris Muhammed on drums? **** is not restricted to 16th or even 32nd notes! Your myspace says you dig for records, so I hope you would know these basic names, as well as actually listening to some of them once in a while. Also don't come at me with that REAL MUSICIAN **** I've played piano since I was 6. So what. After that much time with the instrument, anything I can't play just lets me know I need to practice more. If you can only play on beat you need to practice more. Turn quantize off. Use swing. I think I already said that a few pages back.</thread>

LOL **** you I know who those people are, and don't talk down to me like I don't know music. And I know about backbeat grooves and breakbeats, and about freeform jazz, etc. I know its not restricted to 32nd notes, etc, etc. I am not a jazz drummer and never have been. I have always been a pocket drummer and rock n roll drummer so most of my training has been about staying on beat.

Think I care about your corny ass piano playing anyways. Not to mention you gave me shit first. So eat a bag of dicks.

Not to mention I hit cancel on that post because I thought it sounded to prideful and it posted anyways.

Oh really? As I recall, I answered your dumb ass question and you accused me of trying to 'up my post count'. Your problem was you could only play on beat and your solution was playing off beat. WTF. Also nobody is famous here and your ego is way too big. You make beats. Wow. So do I. So does everyone here. You are way too prideful, the kind of pride where you have parades etc.

halvard_flatland wrote:My thread got closed but I've been trying to break this down scientifically. In this beat (using a different recipe than the one outlined in my thread), did I manage to get a swing / offbeat feel?

Let me know what you think. I appreciate it, thanks.

i think thats the problem like premo said ur tryna approach the creative from a scientific perspective, thats like asking james brown what the steps are to have soul or bootsy what the steps are to be funky.

u gotta have it in u and develop it from within feel the music and u will tap out the drums that breath with the right kind of swing.

again i put this question down to nerdism in production dudes trya apply scientific equations to music thats why alot repetitive robotic shit is being made dudes aint got no soul in they music.

Get the **** outta here if you can't answer my question. Jealous hater talking shit about peoples' souls and creative sides, what's up with that?

If you want to ignore what's really going on, fine, I don't give a ****. But if you want to beat the masters and take things to the next level, you gotta dig beneath the surface. Knowledge is power and the devil is in the details.

**** you.

Wikipedia wrote:Swing ratios tend to get wider at slower tempos and narrower at faster tempos. Miles Davis varied his swing ratios, frequently delaying the first note of each pair of eighth notes by some milliseconds and then synchronized the second eighth note with the drummer's swing eighths being played on the cymbal. Advanced performers often lay back or play behind the beat when performing jazz melodies by delaying the rhythms by milliseconds.

firstly u sound real angry I told u what u need to do vibe with the music and tap some shit out its just that simple it aint rocket science.

obviously u fit the angry nerd columbine profile, regardless **** u and who ever u down with, sound like u got **** in ur ass by ur father figure.

the question ur asking is somewhat akin to what the formula to be creative and have soul.

us is a **** made dweeb but i aint mad maybe u'll grow up and peep game flowers if not die slow.

Stuff like that is the reason I reaped your thread. Calm down or you will keep getting "reaped on."

Thanks for listening, lmao.

Here's Nicolay's take on the subject of "drunken" drums. Not exactly what the guys were asking for (IE not a FlyLo style programing) cause it is grid programed, nontheless he breaks down on of his patterns, with examples, so you know what he's doing.

Btw, I was curious where Halvard got those 1/256T type values he mentioned in his thread that got closed.
