Im still not sure how much of a difference the interface would make. As soon as the data hits the port on the computer I would imagine latenecy is introduced. Any nerds care to verify?

I'm not a nerd  , so I can't tell you the scientific/engineering side of things, but I can tell it certainly can make a difference. Some audio interfaces can perform rock solid at 3 ms. And other audio interfaces can't even reach 10 ms. And tweaking your operating system can help too.

the performance of a soundcard "totally" depends on the configuation of your machine/computer and the power/cpu...

you could have a machine with firewire and usb ports but the firewire port uses the same irq as 4 other devices and the usb port does not have any conflicts the usb soundcard will work better and vice-visa.

with a powerful computer these conflict would not make any differents because the cpu would over power the conflicts...

Ill be sold when I see a person use the Maschine w/ their computer screen turned off the whole time.

When I first got maschine, that was my whole purpose, to see how real the workflow was without the screen, so my early vids that's all I did was use it without the screen.

check this vid:
http://soundsandgear.com/making-a-beat- ... o-samples/

here's another one without the screen/app showing:
http://soundsandgear.com/making-a-west- ... -maschine/

I use it quite a bit in my other vids, sometimes i leave the screen up because it let's people see how I'm chopping up the samples and stuff I'm messing with.

I was def an mpc head to the core, nothing was touching the 4k, and truthfully, if you still have a room full of gear/modules, the mpc still reigns supreme

but if you're just messing with samples and loops/riffs, chopping stuff or whatever, I like maschine's workflow, it's a lot quicker for me personally. I don't use the auto chop much, I just do it old school and set start end points.

I do like having access to all my sounds on the pc, yet having a hardware feel. It's definitely not for everyone so i won't pretend that it is. It's definitely a step in the right direction.

here's a vid i did using maschine as a vst in reaper to sequence other vsts

i dont know what kind of systems you people are complaining about with latency and all that.

if you keep up with the times you get something rock solid and let me tell you.

by the time you can hit your mpc's pad, i have loaded up a 5min sample lifted from a record recorded straight into the software.

by the time you load up a kit im already programming my drums.

swing note repeat blah blah blah, yea we got that.

loading up instruments bass, piano , guitar in a fraction of a second blah blah blah yea we got that.

step sequencing yea we got that

Effects that put your mpc's to shame yea we got that

Reliable company who provides updates and do there best to cater for there customers needs, yea we got that

while akai has left many with buggy os's we going from smooth to plain sailing brother.

the sheer speed of this thing is lightning but that depends on the system that runs it,
any one serious mixing mastering making beats nowadays has got something that can handle the strain.

go and demo the thing and see for yourselfs , i aint no sales man but to dismiss this mpc killer is a big mistake

Good post. Strong points for NI for actually listening to customer request and deveolping the software. They are still making improvements. I still am not sold on Maschine due to many missing features that make it inferior to my 4k for a complete workflow. At the rate NI are going that may come to an end soon with more new features coming to fill the void.

The screen shot above means no audible latency. It is dependant on the soundcard and your computer specs as well as optomizing your computer for audio. Some cats here don't understand how that works but I have the same processor (i7 920) and it will run with no audible latency with a good sound card. A Lynx or RME soundcard will give even better performance. I have a Lynx and have no issues with latency at 64 buffers.

Those comparing Maschine to FL or whatever with a hacked up generic controller don't have a clue. Not the same at all. The Maschine controller integrates with the software the same as an MPC's top panel controls integrates with it's internal software. Well, at least close enough. Only difference is you have to have a good optimized computer and sound card and you have to install the software first. Of course you have to also power on your computer and launch the software. From that point it functions just like hardware. A generic midi controller configured for xx software does not compare at all. You only get about 50% control at best after you set everything up. There is no feedback from an LCD of what you are doing or blinking lights or labeled buttons so you have to memorize what does what etc. Not even close.

Check out this review on Skratchworx. (If you haven't already.)

http://www.skratchworx.com/reviews/maschine.php

Especially the video clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cippDCwEh3U is a good example of what you can do with Maschine from a MPC point of view.

Just remember they reviewed Machine with the old 1.0.2 software version, the latest 1.1 has improved many features, especially the slicing.

I have Maschine myself and I like it despite it's shortcomings. And most of them will be addressed in the next software update as confirmed by Native Instruments.

But no matter how much I like Maschine, I'll never sell my MPC 2000XL, even if I don't use it that much anymore.

chopping on maschine is fast man, really.

I don't sample vinyl, but I import a lot of samples, loops, custom samples, etc and I'm always chopping stuff

it's very quick, way quicker than on the 4k...real talk.

just know what you're getting, and why you're getting it and you'll be fine.

If all you do is sample from vinyl, or other sources, and chop samples up with the mp, then you'll be fine with this, workflow is dope, easy to add fx and such... really ill.

yeah, good to hear man. I mainly sample vinyl, chop, and use my keyboard for basslines............i'll make the occasional keyboard beat, but mostly all chopping samples. I doubt i'd get rid of my mpc, but im definately gettin maschine. right now i have motu bpm and an mpd, got for good deal from a freind........it dont look the same as this. i dont really like that all you really get with bpm and mpd is pads........you cant really set it up to control most of the functions, just some of the functions.

If you have a desktop pc and laptop can you install the software and sounds on both?

yeah I feel you, I chop up stuff about 75% of the time, I just don't do it from vinyl or whatever...

I will tell you, when sampling into maschine, it gives your samples some funky names, like a timestamp or something, and it's not really
able to rename them in your database, that poses a problem for many people, and I'm pretty sure NI will change it, but I wanted to let ya
know that up front lol.

As for me, I import all of my sounds instead of sampling into maschine, so I don't really have to deal with that.

Anyway, as you can tell I've been impressed with it, had it for a few months and love it

had my machine for good few months now and up to this point i been only using it as a controller for live, looks like I might have to sit down with the software now and learn it

yeah man, i kind of dismissed maschine at first (for sampling/chopping). been using motu bpm, but still loving my mpc. i saw those vids today and realized im missin out mayne!
