You should not sample from youtube, you should ONLY sample from songs that you purchased legally, and you should not pass around any songs you purchased or downloaded, free from he internet you should also not give away sounds you sampled from vinyl to other people , Every song you sample should be a song you purchased as should be every sample you use, people bust their ass to make those songs and try to make a living off em so you should pay for your usage and sampling.

This applies to YOUTUBE just the same as cd's, mp3's, vinyl and cassette


only works deemed in the "public domain" are open game.



As long as you know and accept that it may happen to your beats and/or your songs too without compensation..... sample away as EVERYBODY else does

what about second hand music? the artists got their royalties. they are not making any money from the resale of original material. so sampling that would be immoral?

sample anything, never pay if you have to. you tube should just be start of the quest.

if you love it find it on an original format -quality guaranteed -ish.

many years ago i studied sound design at college.i learned thet you must make the sound tape (atmosphere) by any meanes nessasary!!if its on you tube so be it.ive actually found really interesting things here that inspire me beyond the realms of record shops.real artists know that the show must go on.i dont have a record player or records anymore.no tapes.just samplers computer and microphones drums ect.mix it all up.sample anything.just like the old days before the elitists.he he......dont forget to make use of the filers and eq tho....

The funny thing is that you alll that sample off of youtube have absolutely no idea how shitty and transparent your shit sounds. you are a song arranger at best, not a producer. know the difference. TOOLS :angry:

If we put the audio-quality discussion aside.

What's depressing about the "youtube beats" to me (not heard that many) is that they really try to sound like classic hip hop but since the method of production is totally different they sound like bad copies.

With access to all this new material people should focus on making something new instead of searching youtube for an old record that has already been flipped 300 times. If Youtube sampling is your "sound" then do something new and unique with it. I mean, one guy who posted a beat in this thread sampled Toto - Hold the line, out of all material avalible on youtube.

I'm sure youtube sampling is great, but so far it seems more lazy than new.

Dude, I don't sample on a normal basis. That was actually the FIRST sampled be I've ever done. I sampled it because I really liked the song. I always crapped upon sampling and anyone that did it, but thought to try it out to see what all the "fuss" was about. I found it wasn't as easy as I thought it would be(changed the way I looked at sampling). The closet record store is 30-40 min from my house, there is NO way I'm drivin' that just to sample, NOT even my thing. If you seen the video you came clearly see all the boards, that's what I do... PLAY. ON top of all this, I've only had my mpc for not even a year... these are not excuses, I think I'm pretty damn good for only a year of producing..... Better than lots I've heard

Point is, YOU call it lazy I call it fast, cheap and convenient. And if I'm correct, isn't fast, cheap and convenient the reason why sampling became as big as it is today. Either way you put it the sound quality isn't the same ounce you've put through your mpc.....

i agree only because its a good way to find vocal samples and shit that are pretty much impossible to just find....quality is def crap...i dont actually sample cuts i make music out of cause you dont want to hear a shitty lossy sample play over and over..its got to be clean sounding if its used in the music but just like vocal shit or stuff for skits why not?

There's nothing wrong with sampling from youtube or any other digital source. These cats are stuck in the past with vinyl. who cares what your source is as long as the end product is dope beats. I use you tube sometimes because it's easy to find rare songs with out having to run around looking for them and i save a ton of money that. This is the next generation of beat makers stop hating on the way other cats put it down.

what you've spoken here is the EXACT reason why ppl write off sampling... thinking that its fast cheap and easy... cant be... buy records includes giving each album u purchase @ least 35 mins or less per side... looking for the right loop, hit, whatever... plus... records can go for 1 to anything in terms of coin... YOUTUBE is fast cheap and easy... therefore it's a corner cutting maneuver... thats what sucks cuz these dudes say they reppin hip hop buy turning on the laptop... shyt buggs me being that these dudes can become overnight winners by cutting corners... meanwhile the real hard workers stay up pn the wax... plus shyt cant be a "rare" joint with 66789 posts....

im not beefing with u tho, i jus gotta put that out there that youtube is poppin for these suckas cuz it cut the costs of what ppl that want to walk in the footsteps (not jock) of there fav beatmakers spent... therefore copping wax is dedication, fresh and undeniably hip hop!

diggin is a lot funner than typing in "ahmad jamal" or any other person u sample on youtube.. plus! u loose weight! 8)

yeah even though i said i will sometimes take vocal cuts for samples off youtube NEVER, EVER would i EVER sample a song off youtube and make a beat with it...IF THIS IS YOUR METHOD: you are missing the point of making hip hop. if you dont know the difference in sound between a completely LOSSLESS analog format, as a opposed to a LOSSY digital format of sound...than just like the one guy said: YOU ARE NOT A PRODUCER.
