motu won't drop a standalone controller, the idea is controller + software, they aren't moving into making full hardware devices. It's much cheaper to let the computer do all the heavy lifting and just make sure the controller is fully and tightly integrated.
Maschine is setting the pace but I know their will be others, it can only get better for us users, whoever jumps in.
I'd like to see something from yamaha or roland, and akai but I agree akai would probably be the last to do it and just jump on the bandwagon once everyone else is proving it to be a success.
