Yep, the newer features outweigh the 2kxl "sound" that people like, love, wanna marry
whatever, you can later emulate thick, fat sound in a DAW.

get the 1000 baby!
I love to transfer samples via 4GB (yep) memory cards in less than 10 seconds and the whole shit back after sequencing & resampling etc.... i love to sample long parts of me playing the bass guitar and saving them on an (cheap ass) internal hard drive... i love my 3 years of guarantee the shop gave me... i love bla bla bla...

Then again - I NEVER touched any other MPC. But i'm more than happy right now, so whatever!

If that grimey/warm stuff is a requirement for you, you may also think about buying the 1000 and later on a used 12bit vintage sampler you can easily connect to ya mpc for small $$!

Peace

That's the way to go.

The 1000 may sound thinner, like Lamp said, u can 'add' thikness in DAW or get it by proper equalizing before sampling.

Personally, when it comes down to sound...
believe it or not I liked the 1k sound way better than the 2k, (never owned an XL but did have the OG 2000.)
IMO the 2k series were the worst sound wise. Now having said that, There isn't and MPC on earth that does not sound good. The only reason these conversations even come up is because we are comparing MPC's to each other and are generally "picking nits".
Listen to Lamp, go for the feature set. The 1k is a really GOOD look for people who are new-booties to the MPC game. And please for the love of God be sure to put JJ on that beeyotch!

Okay ive owned both, and they have ups and downs to both of em. A 1000 w/ jjos and autochop is great for making beats on the fly, not worrying bout watcha doin, very easy to use, and as far as sound quality goes, you get what you put in. USB and 128 megs are a definate plus, but pointless if your sampling strictly from vinyl or audio source into the MP. But as far as ease of use and dependability, I would say 2000xl. MUCH easier to navigate than the 1000 and its extra features, its smart, simple and sturdy. If you can live without CF cards, zip disks and drives go for dirt cheap on EBAY, I got one for 30 bucks with 15 disks. And it adds a unique colouration to the sound, the frequency feature is astounding for getting a good in the box mix.

And yes, you can preview sounds before you assign them in a 200xl, only difference is in a 1000 it reads directly from the card, while a 2000xl stores it to the RAM, lets you preview it, but you can delete it if you dont like it.

Yeah, i got two scsi zip drives for free, and 30 zips, some were brand new for a buck a piece. off of Craiglist. Just make sure to back them up, becuase they are fragile.
