Okay ive owned both, and they have ups and downs to both of em. A 1000 w/ jjos and autochop is great for making beats on the fly, not worrying bout watcha doin, very easy to use, and as far as sound quality goes, you get what you put in. USB and 128 megs are a definate plus, but pointless if your sampling strictly from vinyl or audio source into the MP. But as far as ease of use and dependability, I would say 2000xl. MUCH easier to navigate than the 1000 and its extra features, its smart, simple and sturdy. If you can live without CF cards, zip disks and drives go for dirt cheap on EBAY, I got one for 30 bucks with 15 disks. And it adds a unique colouration to the sound, the frequency feature is astounding for getting a good in the box mix.
And yes, you can preview sounds before you assign them in a 200xl, only difference is in a 1000 it reads directly from the card, while a 2000xl stores it to the RAM, lets you preview it, but you can delete it if you dont like it.
