if you need an interface i would go the protools route. the user interface is SO easy. just the edit view for looking at your waveforms, and the mix view for your levels and plugins.

if you already have an interface though you can do amazing things with the mpc and ableton. you're really only limited by what's in your head at this point.

I'm going to sell my MPC1000, get Maschine and a mbox mini with pro tools. I am either going to get an ASR10 or just a midi keyboard after that. I just watched a bunch of tutorial videos on pro tools and i can just tell im going to mesh well with it.

are you recording vocals? are you running any hardware that needs to be tracked via the inputs on an mbox? do you have studio monitors that need an audio interface to get sound out of the computer? if you are planning on selling your mp to get maschine, why do you need Pro Tools.. seems like a waste of money imo. just get maschine and run Reaper.. what is your setup as of right now? what kind of speakers do you have..

I have just basic speakers right now. I use my Sennheiser 280's for mixing. I am going to get Rokit 6's or 8's in the near future. No vocals. I personally don't like Reaper, tried it out, got the demo and it seemed kinda clunky.

mixing with headphones is a no-no, maschine is basically a midi controller controlling software, all the sound is coming from inside the computer, you dont have monitors so you dont need an audio interface, youre not recording vocals or any instruments so you dont need an audio interface..

as far as reaper being clunky idk what you mean, the routing process in reaper was a bit difficult at first for me, but once i figured it out i was golden. i love the way they utilize the right-click for so many of its functions. pretty much every DAW is gonna be the same process just done differently. i dont really know exactly what your looking for?? Pro Tools process is no different than any other DAW..

Im certain youre gonna have many headaches tryna use Pro Tools + Maschine.. just using maschine with any DAW you have to understand routing..

Just cause I don't agree with your way doesn't mean mine is wrong. I don't want to use Reaper, I would rather pay less than $300 and get an Interface + a great DAW that I can complete my projects in. Seems pretty simple...make my beats in Maschine...put em in Pro Tools so I can fix em up and add finishing touches.

josephnicks wrote:i add plugins in my final mix in PT.. if i wanted to work solely with software im sticking with Reaper, Reason, & MPD,, i had no issues with workflow there. i bought my mpc to move away from the comp (aside from my final mix & recording). i wanted the mpc experience and i love it, i love chopping on the fly in the mpc versus chopping in recycle. i think you guys should spend more time on your machine and chat with fellow machine heads instead of trying to convince a bunch of mpc lovers that machine is the "mpc killer".. maybe your just trying to convince yourselves..

Haha, so you do use Pro Tools but aren't a fan of Maschine? i get it now...

sure.. i use pro tools also buddy.. i was just tryna help you out and save you a little money. the funny thing is both programs do exactly the same thing.. im guessing youre gonna be lost no matter what DAW you use and there wont be a shortage of threads started by you asking "how do i so this" "how do i do that"

why do you need an industry standard?

it´s not going to make your beats industry standard!

once you get to know one daw, you will quickly understand every other daw. so actually your brain is the industry standard, if you got a fully working one (i assume you got one).

and industry standard means... working... editing... specially recording in to the daw.

if you are allready able to choose the right microphones for every kind of recording setup... (drums, trumpets, vocals, horn section, vocals, etc.....) and set them up correctly - get the right signal flow thru your hardware (amp, compressor....) into the daw, you can take an advantage of knowing the daw in the studio.

lets say you are very interested in this kinda studio work.... you do an intership, and the studio you are working in is using cubase.... but you had pro tools on your computer... messing around with vst´s. it really does not make a big difference! you will be told how to work with cubase... and it will not be impossible for you, cause you worked with pro tools before. vice versa!

so, dont bother too much! get a daw.... work with it... and i bet you´ll be comfortable with every other daw within 2 weeks.

i hope you got my point!

Well, if you already have Live and want to keep it/learn it more than yeah Maschine makes a lot of sense. For example, you can do all your beats/bass...etc. on Maschine and just drag and drop patterns as audio into Live and arrange.

Another compelling reason to try maschine.

if you need to buy an interface i think the protools route is hard to beat. mbox2 mini under 300 bucks... that gives you stereo ins and outs, plus full on protools le. beware your waves stuff might not work with it...they're notorious for requiring upgrades to move up the protools chain... ie if it worked in 6 or 7 in might not work in 8. in fact, just having them on your computer might make protools crash even if you aren't using them.

I appreciate the information my dude. I am actually in the market for a small interface so that is perfect! I just wish it was Firewire instead of USB.

If you want firewire it will cost a lil more but you could go the PT M-powered route. They offer a lot of different interface options some are are usb some are FW some are cards with breakout boxes. take a look at that to you may find exactly what you want with this option.

+ 1

In my opinion the only other DAW that comes close is Logic.
