yeah you can

1) it's bad ass
2) it worked back then and it still works now
3) to make music styles of a certain era cant be done better than with using the real deal

you know...

swing musicians would say the same thing to a bebop musican...

same as gospel group to a soul group...

same as soul group to a rnb group...

same as rnb group to a disc group...

same as disc group to a rap/hip hop group...

a song consist of a groove, melody and harmony it does not matter what style one is creating...

Not everyone needs to throw their computers away every 2 or 3 years. Some serious pros are still using atari computers and those are 25 years old and still run fine. The fact that someone has you replacing your computers every 2 or 3 years is laughable. You do realize that you dont need the very latest processor to run the latest DAWs... music production is not professional competitive gaming..

try loading Wave plugins into an atari computer...

next point...

there is a thread on this forum about setups and pictures of setups...

i do not see one atari machine and i think that thread is about 1000 pages long (get the picture)...

look at the specs for spectrasonic products to...

how about east/west?

again, try running these softwares on an atari machine...

while yes, the world has become very disposable in almost every sector of the market... software does not fit in there.

just curious...

if soft does not not fit why cant you load cubase 1.0 on window xp machine

mwalker wrote:you mpc owners are loyal as sh!t...

what most are missing out on is the fact that all these new technologies i.e. maschine are disposable...

for the price of one mpc 1000 you can basically get 2 maschines...

i am not talking about e-bay either. once you add the add-ons (memory, jj os, external disk space, cd writer) to the mpc1000 it cost about $1300 - $1400...

for individuals that are really into production knows that he/she will be purchasing a new computer every 2 to 3 years. a new midi controller i.e. keyboard/pad controller/control surface every 2 to 3 years. new DAWs, vst/i, etc every 2 to 3 years...

with that being said macshine fits this mold, it is disposable...

why invest into a mpc for a few grand where you could buy a maschine for $600?

2 to 3 years down the road when technology changes an individual could purchase maschine II for another $600...

this how todays producers/beatmaker should be thinking...

lets face it the mpc has grown long in the tooth and is old technology. yes, i do understand that paying a few thousand dollars for a mpc5000 was a big investment and individuals have to justify their purchase. but in todays world disposable gear is where it is at and the maschine fits the mold to an "T"...

i remember coming to this same forum and said the ableton live and Reason is the future. products like the maschine is the future also. it combines hardware/software with "most" of the features todays sample based producers/beatmaker need at the fraction of the price (compared to a mpc)...

p.s. most individual that have invested into hardware, which cost tons compared to software, always feel the need to justify there purchases. with todays technolgy you cant justify purchasing a sh!t load of hardware anymore.

I hear what u saying but,I think that's subjective to the producer, how he like's to work.if it ain't broke don't try to fix it. Of course you get more with software, but to do it right you gotta spend. so the question is do you keep up with all the bells and whistle of software every 6 months or get 1 machine that's reliable for 20 years?
By mwalker Mon May 24, 2010 6:28 pm
i would just like to know...

how many individuals that used hardware 20 years ago still uses hardware today?

instead of saying tons, name a few...

what i find is todays producer uses software (logic, cubase, fl studio, live, etc)...

lets not turn this thread into a hardware/software war...

but...

as a producer or beatmaker you have to respect the maschine and the concept of maschine...

with verision 1.5 of maschine it may not be able to "totally" replace a mpc but with future updates the maschine will lap the mpc in a 100 yard dash...

these dudes use mpc's asr 10's sp1200's s1000's mv8000/8800's,motif's,triton's fantom's.....

I'm not knocking software I use both, but maschine is not the be all to end all!!! it's just a personal preference.if it was not for the MP there would be no maschine, thats what you gotta respect! the foundation of it all.The Mpc put a lot of software companies in buisness. in fact a lot of add's mention the mpc like swing, sequencer and pads  The mp is just world wide respected in the game like no other machine.Like I said the MPC is still having a nice looooooong run.

ok...

you have a total of 8 individuals. i know there must be more but that would still be a small amount compared to software producer...

wouldn't you say?

I'm not knocking software I use both, but maschine is not the be all to end all!!! it's just a personal preference.if it was not for the MP there would be no maschine, thats what you gotta respect!

true...

but what is your point?

the foundation of it all.The Mpc put a lot of software companies in buisness.

go to the akai website and look at their current product lineup (not the legacy stuff)...

software companies has extended the life of akai too...

by the way, most of the products on the akai website are for software...

go figure....

in fact a lot of add's mention the mpc like swing, sequencer and pads

and?

The mp is just world wide respected in the game like no other machine.Like I said the MPC is still having a nice looooooong run.

very true...

but the maschine is putting the mpc out to pasture...

yes...

pasture...

emptysea, you're coming down with the askia saheed syndrome now, too?

instead of addressing dryad's issue head on, you bring up shit that has nothing to do with maschine.

not a good look.

of course it does not matter. groove is groove and wasn't invented any time recently... what is your point? Mine was about making music of a certain era (time period if you are confused) and using the real deal pieces of kit from those eras cant be beaten if you are trying to get the most authentic sound possible. That is why so many companies imitate and re-release, and re-issue certain models of kit.

right, try loading waves pluggins in a 10 year old computer... oh wait, that works. looks like you DONT have to update your machine every two years... oh, and just for your info... there are people on this forum running atari machines. someone even posted pics of it... use the search function.

As a person who owns half of the east west pluggins, and all of the waves pluggins... I can guarantee you my computer is no newer then 3 years old. My point about atari machines was just to point that (as you call them) "serious musicians" require a computer newer then 2 or 3 years old. I am arguing that because it is bull shit.

just curious...

if soft does not not fit why cant you load cubase 1.0 on window xp machine

what? if soft does not fit? what are you talking about? You are saying software is disposable and made to be thrown away in 2 or 3 years... I am telling you it is a fact that people still use 25 year old atari setups with cubase... what does windows XP have to do with any of that? It isn't even running on the same file system.

sure newer software comes out, new features are made... new graphics, new looks.... but disposable? what does that even mean? you go ahead and buy a new system 4 or 5 times every decade while the rest of the world does it once or twice.

I bet if you go through these guys set up right this second that probably is not the case. I can easily tell you Kanye's last few albums have had a heavy software feel. Christ the dude uses is autotune on the regular. I must have missed the jj upgrade with that included.

whether it's to mix and master your tracks, or burn your albums... everyone will most likely be using software at some point for music.

But None of that means that was worked back then doesn't work still today. Dr dre probably owns every drum machine, sampler, and music software ever made... BUt everyone knows he still runs the 3000s.. he only has a half a dozen of them going in one of his setups. Now that is not to say he didn't use other things... but fact is the 3000 is still a cool and fully functional tool today. Why else are they being sold for 1500 dollars on ebay. some guys were selling mint ones for 3000 dollars not long ago (i think they were called beat box kings or something)

my thing is why are all the maschine user's on the MPC forum? if the MP is so whack and outdated just go tot the N.I forum and worship the the MPC stepchild over there. my post clearly stated that what a man use is his personal preference, and I use both.every drum machine that came out was supposed to be the one to drive the MP out of bizness, but just like the SP1200 some one will always want one.dude got auto tune mixed up with what it took to make a track! auto tune is for vocal production  you ask me to name a few hardware producers and I did, now you have to make a statement about that? look bro' if maschine is what you use, cool but don't knock the folks that don't agree with you, cause at the end of the day it still comes down to,is the track hot or not!!!
