those 'simple waveforms' are just normal wav files.

a waveform is a constant loop
can be a sine, square, triangle, etc.. (oscilators produce them, first on analog synths, started in the 70-ies I guess, VCO: Voltage Controlled Oscilator)
those waveforms, we sample them from those synths (or virtual analog, soft or hardware), and loop them in a wave editor.
save them as wav (with those looppoints) and drag them to the 4k.

Correct me if Im wrong, peepz :)

I second that. Once it`s looped you can build on it.

I was talking about Sines, Squares and the like..

Make a sustained loop from a wave sample apply a filter, amp, lfo with your modulation of sines, squares, and whatnots. Each produce different harmonics and each sound depending on the instruments produces different timbres. It is easier to make sustained loops with a wave editor to find the zero points to loop. Layer different loops together and build on it. Triton and others are based partly on the same concepts to get a realistic sounds blending multsamples and oscilators to make new sounds. In your 4k all sounds are based on your samples. Like ikke said a synth program book explains it all. What`s a Synth by emilie mensache for starters. :D

so.. who got those sampled waveforms ?? Someone cares to do some sampling of their fav analog beast? And loop them up in Wavelab? I aint got no synths yet :(

We need at least:
-sine
-triangle
-square
-sawtooth
-noise

I prefer an MS20 or a Moog :P

If someone samples them, I can loop them and upload somewhere (Ive got a server). I just need those waveforms. You can send me them via MSN.
Just PM me first

If you still have the Akai Sample CD rom that came with the MPC4000 look in the file Bank 1 Sound. On there you will find saw, square, 5th saw wave and Other things.

Just a quick warning. Make sure to lower the volume before experimenting with sine waves and other waves. The frequencies can be extreme and damage your monitors and your ears.

Mebbe if someone has a badass moog or a MS20 they could sample the wavs in 24-bit? This sounds very interesting! 8)

Yeah, thats what Im talking bout! 8)
Allmost all sample cd's are 44100hz, 16bits.

If someone here has got an Apogee and a Moog..... well... that would be a dream ..! :P

So, i have a Korg Poly 800 mkii. so when i go to sample the waveform, should all the settings be neutral? this is the part i dont understand. Because lets say i play a patch from the poly800. It's already been modified. How would I know what the (raw un-tampered) waveform sounds like? I did get some colored noise (pink, white, violet, ect) from the web. And dragged the waveforms into the 4000, but im still wondering about these sounds. Do these waveforms sound like white noise? And once i get them into the 4000, should i set the lfo to the same as the waveform im using? (saw+saw. sine+sine, ect.)

set all lfo's, filters etc on the Poly to dry = no effect
Then simply play the dry wave (sine, saw, etc)

Or go read a book bout synths! :P

yeah ike. i need to get a book about synth programing. its weird that i dont have a problem programing my dx7, but have a bit more trouble with the poly. i understand the basics, and have read a few articles online, but i guess i need to dive into it a bit more. the poly is a simple synth, though. im just too busy sampling!!!! gotta love the 4000.

ill try that tonight before i head out. if it works out, ill send the waveforms to anyone who may need em.
