Sorry, but what I was trying to say is more like delete the part of the sequence that a certain track is playing, if that makes sense lol.
So, are you wanting to delete a certain portion of just one track, like if you've recorded the bass line for an 8-bar sequence, and you don't like what you played in bar 5 for instance? So you want to delete just bar 5 of the bass line but leave everything else intact? That would be "punching in" except that you might want to just punch in silence.
While the sequence is playing, you can press Record, and then whenever you play the first note of your punch-in, the ASR will start overdubbing your new part automatically and erasing the old. When you hit Stop, that is where the punch-in will end, and your old track will be intact from there on.
But if you have to actually play a note to get it to start punching in, how do you record just silence? You can use a pedal to punch in, but you'll have to have a dual-pedal setup (two pedals mounted together, which are wired into one plug which goes into the Footswitch jack). The right pedal is the regular sustain, the left can control your punch-ins. But if you don't have a pedal such as this, you might just play a "sacrificial" note to kick you into punch-in, then press Stop to get you out. I'd use like the highest note on the keyboard - something very obviously different from the rest of the track. Then, go to the event editor (Command -> Track, to EVENT EDIT TRACK) and simply erase that sacrificial note.
If there is enough interest, by the way, we could probably make a simple device to plug two sustain pedals into one Y-cord, which would be wired to operate the two pedals as mentioned above (one sustains, the other does punch-ins).
