Still wondering why the 8 wasn't too loud?
Were they a new unused pair?
By any chance were you using the RCA connectors instead of XLR?

one was new the other was a display model. I shouldn't have went for that anyway! was eager to get em home! I use a xlr to trs cable. the 8 was loud when turned allll the way up-maybe the mbox2 mini?the hs80 didn't require that

Still seems strange.
It's been my experience whenever using RP8G2's with the XLR inputs they are loud.
If your cables are wired correct and the right ones for the way you are connecting they should have been plenty loud.
KRK says the default Input Sensitivity is +6 (not 0 ) and you turn them down if they are too loud.
They are attenuators not gain.

Not sure what the issue was with the Loudness there.....I use both the Yamaha HS50 and the RP8s, Having the two provides really good balance for me, compared to when I only used the Yamaha's. My RP8s are very loud if I push them.

got the rp6 and sub going now. think i'm cool with this set up-I did listen to the vxt 6 and was impressed!!!!!!

2 suggestions;
-Since you got the sub, take the time to set it up with their described procedure using a test tone and check for phase issues from placement.

-Also get yourself a latching footswitch so you can use them like 2 sets of monitors.

Been using the Dynaudio BM15s for over three years - love em ( Still have my old Fostex PMs and a set of standard Yamaha's ( NS10s ) for cross-reference.

The BM's are quite frankly beautiful ... At the time I was looking at Genelecs and PMIs - along with two other expensive German makes. However, I was advised to check out the BMs by a friend whom happend to also know a studio guy who was closing up shop ( let's just say that I got em for half of what I could easily sell them for tomorrow ! ).

The stereo imaging is on par with anything that I have heard from Genelecs ( which I rate very highly ), not forward sounding in any way, real weight but without muddying the top end of mids in any way. I think these should be close to the top of the list for any semi-pro/pro producer, truly.

I have the sub under my desk. should it be out in the open? i'm in an untreated basement.any treatment suggestions?

BIG difference between the BM15's and either the BM5 or BM6's, the sound isn't even close.

It's not really about a sub being in the open it's about not putting it where it causes direct vibrations in things and making sure where you place it doesn't cause phase cancellation.

A sub in an untreated basement might be a bit to deal with since you are dealing with:
a) the strange charactreristics of the basement
b) the reflections and build up of an untreated room
c) the aggressive nature of a sub

I would say treating your room or creating a room within a room should be your next endeavor.
At a minimal you should evaluate the room to determine what your Room Modes are so you can begin to address them.

Yes, nta, very true ... they are in a different league ( although the 6's are a nice sounding set also ). The first time I ran one of my funk track's through the 15s, the room literally shook and I was blown away by the utter clarity and focus of the sound - and the levels are out of sight, if you are in a position to push them.

yea i do wanna redo the studio with a better control room. my booth is pretty good. this rp6 +sub combo is kinda decent so far. the dyns will come later
