man that is dumb... most people aren't mixing engineers, and most beat makers wouldn't see the sense of buying a 60k ssl to track beats from their drum machine and keyboard to the computer. Pointing out how much an ssl board has nothing to do with preferring to download reason for free over paying for software... however most people do drive cars and most car drivers can appreciate a nice ride.
while yes you noticed there is a difference between tracking software, and sound building software.... (IE: cubase, and reason) that doesn't really mean reason isn't a daw.... recording is not a prerequisite to being considered a DAW. The term daw is very broad.... fact is, yes.... reason is a workstation .... using digital media and doing everything digitally. Is reason a multi track recording program? no. is it a mastering suite? again no. The dude owns protools, he wants to jump into a DAW such as logic.... I doubt that is because of it's multi track recording and mastering tools.
