i just want to know the phycology behind this.

i noticed in tht roca fella video, there was no computer in sight
also the beatmakers video, there was the cmputer used for a tape deck, and not part of the beat making process, also tht dude who made tht beat from the sesame street sample, the alchemist, also no computer. when i read the gear of the major producers, they dont seem to have a computer in sight.

i remember the first time i went to a major label to shop my beats, btw it was on 24 track, after the first 30 secs, he looked at me and said, tht is a computer beat, and it just not holding any weight my friend. sorry..
it was good, but the instruments werenot punchig.

 i defended it, and he said yeah what ever, i have been in this bussines for a long time, and i know a computer when i hear one.
embarrased as ever, he then escorted me to the labels studio. which is a no no, but he said i gotz ballz and detrermination, so he will give me a tour.
oooh my f**** goodness. the acostic sponge panel alone with curtains i couldnt even afford.
they have nothing but akai and emu samplers, with loads and loads of hardware modules. and of course the mpc 2000xl.
he then goes, as you can see, there are no computers in here for sounds, its all hardware.

ok guys, tell me, in your humble opinions, does it really makes sense as to buy, hardware modules. as opposed to softsynths/softsamplers/romplers.
i checked out the price of a roland jv 2080. this is like yearzz old, and it was going for like 270 pounds. the expansion cards are like 130 pounds  geeeez, tht rediculous price for such old technology.
with other modules like fantom, or triton extreme going for like 1500 pounds. why go with such large, space hogging, eventually played out sound, modules? maybe its because your music will have tht association of all those records tht have "air play" so ppl can accept it easier ?

when you could cop like giga sampler and or any other software sampler, and buy the sample cd, of the instruments, like the proteus, triton, trintiy, and roland jv series, for like 20 pounds and load them in a soft synth.

ok i know the d/a wont be the same, but your average joe not gonna tell the difference.
but you would "effectively" have the "same" instruments somewhat.
and you wont have to keep up with every new module tht is released just to get one keyboard sound from a 1000, or a particulr horn sound.

spectrasonics, run over these harware at lightning speed. totally run circles around them.
the bass module, and atmosphere, has so much expression and life, its amazing. also fxpansion bfd drum module 2 dvds of programs, i dont think you can get any closer to a real drum kit than tht, okay they are like 5+ gigs worth of program, but hard drives are cheap.

playing devils advocate here.

let me know ppl. in depth what u think,

You know where I stand Skalawa.

I've heard softsynths pound something nice, but my preference is hardware. EMbrace limits.

Oh, and check your email Skalawa ;)

I won't go in depth but I will say that I've owned Roland and EMU modules and all three of the big boy workstations(Triton Extreme, Motif ES and the Fantom X). The Triton was the one I was gonna stick with until I built a new PC and bought Sampletank, the Triton was sold and more softsynths were bought and I have no regrets. The MPC of course is still the brains of my setup though.

As far as dude shittin' on your stuff cuz it was done on a comp, I'd say he's a ****' idiot or he just thought your tracks were garbage, heat is heat, I don't give a flowers if it's done with flowers' pause tapes, if the shit sound tight, then it sounds tight. Jay Z's "Hard Knock Life" was done on a comp, if I'm not mistaken 9th wonder did all his stuff in Fruity Loops, he did what he did, burnt some cd's and played 'em for Jay and Jay said it was hot and wanted such and such beats. Now what Jay heard was probably lackin' in the "production" side of things but what probably happened was that all of 9th wonders tracks were ran through top of the line processors and engineered by a pro before Jay ever even wrote to it.

The bottom line is that if your beats are fire and the streets are feelin' em then it don't matter what you used to make 'em. Shit, it's cat's in here usin' top of the line gear and they still garbage.

yeah i hear tht. coo. to rass, to actually hear some one sell thier hardware for softsynths. thts a first for me. seen. i have used sampletank, and i hated it. the interface is really buggered, especially when selecting the output channels of the instrument, it always kills the vibes. plus also too much clcicking of sub headings to select an instrument. the output of it, is not the greatest either. sample tank 1 was heat, and easier to navigate around, but 2 for me was a dissapointment. any words on using those sample cds on soft samplers?

By cooocooo1 Mon Sep 13, 2004 11:30 pm
Really? That's a trip, everything about Sampletank seems real easy to me but everybody likes to work different so......

Selectin the outputs couldnt be easier to me, the sound selction method could be a lil easier but it works. As far as the output, I don't know, it seems fine to me.

I dont use sample cd's, I have some of the expansions for Sampletank but otherwise I just sample into the PC and import the samples into Sampletank(except for drums, I use the MPC for that)

Also, I should add that both software and hardware sound less than great to me until they're bein' ran through quality hardware processors.

i cant back tht, cause my pc has neva eva crashed with me in over a year, well except this cat came to lace some vocals on my tunes, he was like ripping, then he said

" the demons in me........." i tell u the honest truth, my computer froze, at tht exact moment, and i had to a reset, and even then, i had to restrt it again. after tht, i said i will contact him, and this has been over 2 years now, never again.....

i tried sampletank and loved the sounds but my computer couldnt handle more than 4 instruments, the sound would start stuttering and shit it was real anoying. And i dont feel like constantly buying the newest pentium chip plus the motherboard and the new ram that only fits the new motherboard. Computers are too much trouble for me...

i rig my mpc and my keyboard up to my pc, so there aint no clickin it out. I bang out the drums and lay down the samples just like i would with hardware.
