If the maschine had more midi ins and outs i would gladly change to maschine..

sorry but to me this makes no sense. They are both boxes with knobs to turn, and pads to hit..I don't see why the MPC box would give me more inspiration.jpeele wrote:I had to chime in on this one. I just sold Maschine. Why? One word. Reliability. I know some people think that the MPC5000 is not reliable, has bugs and is not as stable as it once was, but compared to Maschine and dealing with the computer, it is FOR ME. I have to stress for me because everyone's experience is different. I know people that use Maschine and they swear by it. I, on the other hand, have a manager on my ass everyday looking for new music. I don't have time for quirky drawbacks of software. I trust the MPC to hold me down. I'll use software for the sounds and to have other options. But the MPC is what you would want to get a track going quickly and have something that will perform day in and day out. I can't tell you how many times I've wanted to throw my damn computer(s) out the window. I have a top of the line MAC Pro desktop and top of the line PC and it's always the same ****. When I cut my mpc on, that **** works. Period.
Granted, there are trade offs. The MPC is annoying when it comes to building kits and naming sounds. It's structure for sound management is archaic as hell, especially if you know what it's like to build a kit in, let's say, Ableton Live's drum rack or just loading a sound in FL Studio. It's also sometimes annoying that you have to track the beat out in pro tools or whatever daw you use. However, those are small tradeoffs for the reliability. You're going to have to invest a little time in building kits and transfering sounds to your daw, but you just have to put in that extra little work. I sold an mpc before looking to go fully software only to turn around and buy the **** back.
In the end you have to do what's best for you. I would advise to experiment as much as you can. Every producer is different. What works for me may not work for you. You have to come to that conclusion on your own. I'm just sharing what works for me.
Good luck.

IMO its just a tool. like antyhing else. i might get one despite having a 5000. but i dont plan to get rid of the 5000. they can co exist. (besides i sold my 2kxl a few years back and went all logic / reason... loved it but missed my mpc) some days you feel like using different tools. As a matter of fact I tend grow as a producer when i use different gear. it challenges my creativity in a way.

exactly
this is why I own different synths, different drumboxes, analogue, digital, etc etc
many of them might overlap but all of them have their unique way of using and sound different which makes it more interesting for me...depending on what I want to achieve, one box/synth might be 'better' to use for that purpose, but I do not own one piece of gear that is 'the best' for all the things I do
some painters refine their art of painting with exactly the same paint on the same canvas, but some of them like to use different paints and different sizes/sorts of canvases.
What I notice is that quite some (mostly american ?) MPC users are hiphoppers using MPC only and they are quite narrowminded about it (MPC is 'the sh*t' and the rst s*cks) , but quite some (more european ?) tend to use MPC also for other music ,next to a bunch of other tools and just see it as one of their tools that has it's merits and good points, but also can admit the bad points of it which can be replaced by using other stuff next to it.
Above is purely how this forum is percieved a lot of times by me as a european
