yeah no doubt there will always be people who will love the product... and some will always remember it with high regards....
but I have a feeling that the 5000 will always be remembered as the laughing stock of akai and the mpc series.
It is bad when numark even stopped promoting it and they were really trying hard to promote the 5k. They dont even show that at events anymore... hahaha even roland brings the MV8800 to events still and that design is almost as old as the mpc4000.
I'm sure the hating against the 5K stems from 2 things:
1. Just Blaze's rant which no longer has any ground because everything he criticized is already fixed with OS 2.0
2. That it wasn't named MPC 3500
The love the 4K gets is justified, it's still a great machine.. it has 2 (n a half) major advantages to the 5K: 24 bit sampling, the possibility to upgrade it to 512 MB RAM (and Aksys).
But the hatred towards the 5K is really not justified. It has many other advantages to the 4K: workflow, synth, hd recording, standard connectivity, etc... it also has many advantages to the 1K and 2K5 (even with JJos).
I really don't know why akai/numark/whoever don't push the 5K more. It is definately a killer machine which IMHO only needs a couple of updates (for example refining of trim mode and chop shop).
