And maybe dude's poor right now. You know, no money?

He's got money for an MPC right?

And, to be very clear. There is NO format that is safe from degradation. Absolutely none. And most especially NOT computers. Geez, with the # of things to wrong with a computer...I am happy to have something dedicated. The real advantage of computers is ease of copying. But if you can afford it, keeping your important files etc. on one medium is foolish. Much better to have a couple of mediums or at least a couple of drives.

No format is safe from degradation.. Yeah, and that's why you make backups. To preserve for the FUTURE. So archiving to a legacy format is not only impractical (no spares, no tape produced anymore), expensive (repairs and re-alignment), but downright silly. Stick it on a cheap hard drive and make a copy of that hard drive as a backup.

The only thing you may want to use a VHS recorder for now is sado-masochistic workflows...

I think I've seen that movie.

I awready said:

you may want to look into a friendlier format if you are just using it for archiving.

Man. You don't read well do you? You restated my point twice now. And you are trying to argue with me over a point we, at base, agree on. Archiving on an outdated format may not be a good idea. And it isn't as good as dedicated formats. UNLESS you really know what to look for. But that doesn't mean he can't do it if he wants to. I think he asked for opinions, no? Still allowed here right? Opinions?

And just because someone has an MPC doesn't exclude them from not having much money later. I mean, by your logic, once someone has one MPC they can own as many as they want, whenever they want? I don't know about you, but I had to save for my MPC and once I got it I was a bit skint for a while.

I think you are just upset because someone chose to disagree with your re-posting of an old thread in reply to someone's question. Well. Tough. I felt like replying instead of being a dink and telling someone to use the search function in a backhanded and petty way.

He asked if there was a point to using it for saturation. I pointed him to a very similar and very recent thread on the subject. Where's the backhand move in that?

If OP doesn't have much money, then it would be irresponsible to advise him on buying a recorder for which repairs, spares, and media will come at a premium. Point about the MPC is, you saved for it. Save for a dedicated archival system. Don't skimp on the most important aspect of your work: its storage.

The only thing petty and backhanded here is your insults. If, by replying, you have absolved yourself from being a "dink" (really? dink?) then you are implying that I am a "dink" - in a backhanded kind of way, naturally.

Upset? I'm LMAO.

Hey guys, stop this, ok?
As i was saying, i do not going to save track only to the VHS. I use mpc1000 with JJOS1, and i still got no standalone recorder, recorder wich is built in the mpc got lots of complications (no track muting, no sequences switching, etc.) so i want to use VHSR only to record sound from the MPC. After that ill turn vhs tape back to digital!
PS Im only 16,to buy mpc i have been saving money for half year maybe more. I just cant waste 200-300$ for HDR, i could buy other equipment for this money, you know

Yeah. I figured it was something like that.

At Shosta. Sorry. I should not post early in the morning. And seeing the # of times ppl tell questioners to "search the forum" or refer them to another thread kinda gets to me. Seems easier to ignore if you don't want to answer, but to each his own. However, that's no excuse for being rude. So sorry about that. And hey, being called a dink is way better than many of the other names people choose to call each other. I think dink is pretty funny actually. Peace.

im not sure how recording to VHS would sound. maybe it'll give a positive "touch", maybe nothing at all, or you'd be better off not even doing it.

if your doing to store your music, same thing. you may be better off just saving to a hard drive. because if it turns out to be "bad" quality once on VHS, once you get it back later, it'll be worse quality.

but wouldnt hurt to try though

that's a terrible idea. your introducing extra noise & signal degradation as well as wasting a lot of time for no reason. why don't you just record it straight into your computer?

yeah I think that is the idea... I believe the VHS recorder is supposed to act as an effect in this case.... which then would go to the computer. I say let him have a go and maybe he can get cool sounds from it.
