answer the question , loose all the screws from the pad socket, below there you will this green board where the wires from the pads is connected ,there are like 16 solder heads ,just put some electrical type to cover them from touching the metal plating below and the problem solve.

this has happened to me twice. The first time, I took it apart and cleaned the pads and sensors real good and that seemed to work well. The second time, I tried everything but I never got it to work. I have my 2500 packed up right now but I plan to install JJOS when I get ready to use my 2500 again. Maybe that will fix it. It is pretty frustrating.

I'm currently having this problem with my pads; I hit one pad and it's triggering all the other ones. My issues have also been the same as a lot of other people's issues. For instance, I thought it was fixed when I took it apart and tried to reconnect loose connectors and ribbons because it started to work after putting the faceplate back on, but then the problem returned the next day.

I previously read a thread that said it could be a velocity issue, and I think it might be the case (well, for me, at least). Go to program mode and try to hit the pad as lightly as possible and see if the correct pad hits. For me, if I hit the pad with a VERY soft touch, the correct pad registers the hit, but when I put any more velocity into it, it starts to trigger all the other pads again. The thread also said that the jjos can correct this issue by somehow changing a velocity setting, but I'm going crazy looking for that thread; maybe someone could help us out.

Nonetheless, I was lucky enough to have a midi keyboard, so I just assign my samples to the keys now as a simple workaround, but it would be nice to have the full functionality to my pads again. Try hitting the pads softly and see if the correct pad registers, and please report your results back here. Maybe we can find some sort of common issue with our units.

I am having a similar problem with my 2500 and have been for some time . It started out as when i turned on first pad 7 & 8 would stay on as if being held down, preventing me from changing programs in the main menu, but after it had been on for a while the problem would go. At this stage its pad 5,6,7,8,11 & 12, when i hit these pads in the sensitivity menu i can see them triggering other pads . It doesnt go away anymore regardless of how long its on for , makin the mpc un-usable. i think my problem is to do with the computer of the mpc tho because i have also had a lot of other un-explainable problems that come and go like a crackling right output, my window button & one of my function buttons stops working, it deletes files from my card at random and once it was tuning up and down a sample on one of my pads on its own, these problems only happen from time to time . I am still covered by my warrenty and have had enough of this so am going to send it back to see if they can solve these problems or replace my unit.

or maybe it starts with thee manual........ cuz i've Never had this problem on me 2500, & its been 5 yrs on it now...
* i don't know, besides thee MPC is 1 helluva machine, don't count it out just yet * :wink:

Got the same problem here... but got the solution too :wink:

My 2k5 fell from a keyboard stand a couple of weeks ago, all pads hit the floor hard...
Today I turned it on and experienced all the issues on this topic: dead pads, can't change program from main menu with jog wheel, 16 levels not working, etc,...

Guys, the problem is this: pad sensor is broken. Not exactly broken, but if only one pad (10 of them in my case) is continously pressed because it's broken you can't access 16 levels menu or change program with jog wheel, and that happens when you hit a pad hard, very very hard, it remains pressed forever, not the rubber thing, just the pad sensor inside the machine. When I say pad sensor I mean that crappy plastic foil with black squares on it. Take a look on this link, these guys make the pad sensors (force sensing resistors) inside our 2500s..

Tough stuff, isn't it?

So I disconected the pad sensor, only the pad sensor, that slim plastic foil plug from the little green board and, surprise, jog wheel and 16 levels are working again (pads obviously not)
Solution: order a new pad sensor to mpcstuff, vst, hht,..., it's about 70$. Mine is coming.

this may not be quite right. mine has a factory installed strip for this purpose. im just about to replace the sensors due to some of the mentioned issues

I was having issues with my pad sensors as well. 9-16 stopped functioning mostly. I was going to order new pad sensors online but really wanted to get back up and running asap. I called Forat Electronics in Studio City, CA and Bruce ended up installing them for me for a fair price. If you are local to L.A. and even if you are not, you can trust this guy to do fantastic work. I am not in any way affiliated with him, just impressed with his service. He's also a really nice guy and could tell you some stories...

It seems the pad sensors on some of the MPC2500 and MPC5000 are defective and wear out. The pad sensors he installed in mine are Rev 3 Sensitronic, which he said just came in from AKAI. I'm hoping that they have sussed out the problem at AKAI and that this new revision will last. I will report back, so far so good!

It sucks to have a $1500 Piece of equipment in it's original box cuz it doesn't work

Same problem here, also installed jjos free 3.10 but still pad problems.

BUT i have got THE solution. A friend of mine helped, he always has cheap ass solutions and some of them gone wrong but this one is a definitely succes.

The problem is the contact within each pad sensor and possible air bubbels beneath the pad sensors. We (He) fixed the existing pad sensors, so don't have to buy new !

First remove the pad sensors. > Here is a example how to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sm2e4uLLTzM (is in french and a 5000 but i think you can manage ;)) This guy is fixing a complete new pad sensor and have removed all the paste; we are doing cheap ass *&^# here so leave the paste !

1. rub each sensor with both hands so it warms up (the inner core of each pad can make better contact now) Connect the pad sensor back with the mpc still screwed open and test each pad with the mpc running on the table that you are working on until every pad works, then also with the rubber pads on top of the pad sensors.

Make sure you remove the main power plug every time you connect the pad sensors back to the pcb.

2. take the metal with the paste on it to the kitchen and poor hot water over the paste on the metal (for re-use) and put the pad sensor cautious back on the metal, while putting it back take a piece of plastic and rub the pad sensor on to the metal to release all the air bubbels beneath the pad sensor. Then test the pad sensors again.

3. screw the metal with the pad sensor back on you mpc an run some final tests. DO NOT TOUCH the pad sensor while screwing it back !! Ask a roommate for help ..

This may take a while (for us it did) to rub and test several times, but with enough patience and with sober approach i am convinced this also works for you.

Good luck and hopefully this also save you at least $80 or something like that ..
