Can I put JJ os on maschine?? Only joking guys. This thread does not want to die it seems. It has been very entertaining and because of this, I have to say i would check maschine out and maybe recommed it to a friend that uses logic alot instead of him getting sampler. But doesnt float my boat much

8) Dude is just at the opposite end of everything but I give him props just don`t like the way he goes about doing it. I will admit his suggestions will make NI add more to the maschine to bring in more mpc users.

You have to love this forum when the kids here can't keep their comments on the subject at hand and resort to name calling. Get a life..get a girflriend...find a job.

Classics were made on analog tape that need a razor blade to perform edits...yes, I am sure people want to go back to those days. Classics were made on samplers that had 12 seconds of sample time. Feel free to go back to the samplers..you can find them in eBay for under $100. Classics were made on 8 track recorders....today, why be limited with the technology we have.

First, I don't believe Maschine has to operate exactly like an MPC...but it is a great place to start since MPCs are the standard. However, in 2010, it should have similar tools as previous flagship samplers which it doesn't. As a consumer, I point out flaws in music production gear. It is up to these companies to listen or not. User feedback is the reason why we have these latest MPCs with the power they have...the reason for OS 2 for the MPC 5000 or the JJ OS for the MPC 2500/1000. Heck...its the reason why we now have Pro Tools 9 which isn't tied to Avid hardware..and finally have delay compensation for plug-ins. The same is true for OS 1.6 for Maschine. You can thank use die-hard samplers for all the time and energy we put forward in providing feedback...while many of you just talk BS about what we do only to reap the benefits of our deeds.

Back to Maschine:
Sample layering. I can relate to the fact the some may not use this feature. But others do. I am one of them. Maschine doesn't do it the way an MPC does. Of course you can just record two drum hits at the same location as a work around...there are many other ways to do so. Again, this isn't the point. As far as drum layering getting worst with new MPCs..this isn't accurate. The older MPCs had SIMULT and no keygroup programming. Newer MPCs have layering in drum programs and keygroup/instrument programs. Depending which OS you are using, SIMULT is also available. I like the newer MPCs layering even though the models apply the same LFO/FIlter settings. They still give you separate panning, pitch, etc, per layer which is still extremely useful than not having it at all.

Timestretch/pitchshifting. Many users don't necessarily need time stretch and pitchshifting to be perfect in a drum machine. Mistakes/flaws are part of the creative process. Maschine needs these features..and NI hints that it will be added in the future..as it should.

Chopping/slicing. Maschine doesn't come close to the chopping in the JJ OS or the Akai OS 2 for the MPC 5000. Maschine is limited by the number of regions in can slice a sample into. MPCs can slice a sample and spread it across 64 pads or more depending on the model and OS you choose. Maschine certainly doesn't have the non-destructive chopping of the JJ OS...which is the truth.

Name/rename. Maschine doesn't have an easy way to name/rename samples. Using an MPC, you can freely do this anytime you like. Maschine, you have to name a sample prior to actually sampling or it will give your sample a crazy name that you can't easily edit. This may seem small..but its very annoying to many in the NI Forum.

PS...as far as being at the opposite end of everything...I championed the MPC 2500 and 5000 in this forum when a few of you were naysayers. Also..the last time I checked, you created this versus thread. We already have enough people talking the pros of Maschine...and I am talking the pros of an MPC.

....to be continued.

decent post A.S.

you need somebody on both sides of the fence for a proper thing like this..

I am surprised you only mentioned virtual things on that one... and no hardware/ergonomics/build comparisons.

But as of now on the maschine, okay you cant time stretch... I am guessing that includes the pitching up or down without changing the sample length (reverse time stretch if you will) any of that type of thing is not currently included?

Maschine can't currently pitch shift without changing the tempo. It behaves just like older samplers.

Fade in/out. While Machine can edit samples to fade in/out, you have not control over it unlike the latest MPCs where you have several options to choose how you want the same to fade in/out.

By the way...I was just messing around with the editing functions on Maschine....and it crashed. Not claiming MPCs never crash...but they are more reliable than products run on computer software.

Cuz it doesn`t matter what you have if you can put a decent groove together. It is just spending money for nothing I forgot you are a collector so you don`t care about mastering gear.

First, I don't believe Maschine has to operate exactly like an MPC...but it is a great place to start since MPCs are the standard. This we can agree on but really talking about what it can`t do with tons of videos in this very thread with great music is nonsense. What kool aid are you drinking?? This thread is 4k vs maschine for new buyers and some currrent mpc owners every bodies has different workflow even if maschine had O.S 10 with all you asked if it still doesn`t fit your workflow it won`t. People have to find the unit that fits them not depend on some update that may or may not come. Simply walk in the store and play with one.

yada, yada, you are repeating what I already said about the 3k and 2xl. Layering for panning, pitch, also start, filter, and cool but the true is the samples have to be edited if you got a deep subby kick, hard punchy kick and a long strong sustain kick just throwing them under the same pad with out editing isn`t helping anybody. Like I said if you keep them separate pads you can use all the tools in your unit to get them right. To each his own.

Timestretch/pitchshifting. Many users don't necessarily need time stretch and pitchshifting to be perfect in a drum machine. Mistakes/flaws are part of the creative process. Maschine needs these features..and NI hints that it will be added in the future..as it should.
True but not having them doesn`t prevent people from making a beat. And I myself seldom use the timestretch or pitchshifting on the 4k. Like I said before I use Ableton it is much better to prepare the samples first before putting into the sampler.

This is workflow only for most beats you are looking at tempo or timing when you chop. If I want to chop down a 8 bar loop into a 1/16 notes maybe I would need 64 regions. Or if I want to use auto threshold or whatever you or on rather than make a copy I would want a non destructive sample like you wish. But I`m curious what to you Jah chop up into 64 pieces really a one bar drum loop? A whole 4 bar chorus?? I would love to check out your work and see why you need all of this.

Name/rename. Maschine doesn't have an easy way to name/rename samples. Using an MPC, you can freely do this anytime you like. Maschine, you have to name a sample prior to actually sampling or it will give your sample a crazy name that you can't easily edit. Jah all you do it run out and buy the lastest and greatest gear and cop it for your collection. How to actually use the unit, you wouldn`t know time shift from a pitch envelope or the reason we timeslice for tempo you crack me up. Tell you what NI can come with a zillion features and it wouldn`t change a thing for you just another addition to your collection until the next gear it release in 2011, 2012 or whenever.

Go make a beat son. It is all about the music if you can`t make a beat now timestretch and pitchshift aint going to do shit for ya wake up.

You can't intelligently discuss or debate the differences and/or pros/cons of these two devices that you created a thread on. This is the reason why you keep trying to distract people with talk that is not relevant to this thread.

Since you appear to not comprehend what I wrote, here it is again. I am talking specifically about features of each Maschine as it stands on its own. Not talking about work-arounds or work flows.

Maschine doesn't have easy layering of samples. An MPC does (take your pick of the numerous models). The Maschine layering work around you talk about can be done with any sequencer to include every MPC. As I said before...NI has acknowledged this and plans to address it because that is what us users want. To each his own..keep your work-around.

Timetretching/pitch shifting. Can't recall anyone claiming you can't make music without these tools. I simply stated that all modern samplers have these tools excluding Maschine. NI has acknowledged this and plans to address it because that is what us users want.

Chopping/slicing. Again, this is not about your work-arounds or whether or not I use this feature completely because I don't. MPCs do this better than Maschine without any work arounds. MPCs are not limited to auto slicing audio into 4, 8, 16, and 32 regions as Maschine is. You simply dial in the number of regions you want, and it slices the audio. Maschine does have an add slice function but so does MPCs. Also, since you have very little experience with the JJ OS, you are missing the benefits of its method of chopping. Users in the forum have been asking for this feature (non-destructive chopping) for years and now finally have it. Maschine should adopt this method as well...IMHO. Visit the NI Forum and you will see I am not alone.

For the record, I am a die-hard MPC 5000 and MPC 2500/1000 w/ JJ OS user. I know these machines in and out. Several of my suggestions have made it into their respective softwares (do a forum search if you like...its all there). I also own and use the Fantom G (which sucks at sample editing)....may pick up the Motif XF which appears to be better at sampling and sample editing. When new products come along that fits my needs, I do what many technically inclined producers of music do....I purchase them. Some producers stick to their old tools. Others upgrade...simply look at NI website to see all the producers that "reportedly" switched over to Maschine from using MPCs. 9th Wonder switched from FL to an MPC 2500. Just Blaze went from an MPC to Logic back to an MPC..and then claimed to use an MV or another Roland sampler...he still uses an MPC 4000.

I can't recall anyone claiming that this isn't about the music. But you are in the wrong forum for this. Take this to Forum dedicated to how you use your equipment. This is the comparison thread son....get with the program. If you can't stay on topic, you are doing nothing but messin up this thread. I am fully aware that Maschine's OS is extremely flawed and limited when compared to other tools/toys/collections I have..outlined extensively in this thread. To be continued...Maschine OS 1.6 is on the horizon.

Going to bed. Have a promotion exam tomorrow morning.......

20 pages deep and all you do it rehash the same thing 18 plus pages back. My thread is about workflow the features thread is in the studio forum which you help get close then you ran here. Good riddance.

The rest of your daddles were noted and no use repeating a dead horse.

For the record you are a collector you said so yourself.

The only limitation is the individual you can`t blame gear if you can`t make a track and new features ain`t going to make a beat for you whatever the OS.

Still everything you can`t do others can.

@Askia,

why not just admit that you are a collector, and not a beatmaker?

we all know this is the truth. you will never get any satisfaction out of any piece of gear, simply because you do not use any of the gear.

there is nothing wrong with being a collector / hoarder.

It seems to me that everyone is in agreement about maschine's shortcomings.
The focus of thread has shifted, if you do not like the thread anymore, simpley do not post anymore.

I think Jerome made some.good.points this time around and
U guys bash him for being honest he owns a mpc and machine
And admits machine is just not cutting like I wouldn't expect it too
It's a cool gimmick but its sad when people who can't afford a mpc
Buy this cheap midi controller and try to justify there purchase
By saying it kills the unit they can afford ...what ever make u happy about your
Purchase I guess ...maschine is pretty wack if u ask me

I know alot of people are coming to the thread late and may be unwilling to read the thread from the start throughout. But the real deal is the points had already been made from the first 4 pages of the thread. I own both which is why I write the thread I mainly use my 4k as I like it`s sequencer and extensive parameters for my needs. But it doesn`t mean maschine couldn`t be used to make music. Jahrome came here after running from the studio thread and he is infamous for just regurgitating anything to get a rise out of people. Over at the NI forum no one paid him any mind. Maschine can be used by anyone an it isn`t a gimmick just a difference in workflow and needs. And on my thread no one is saying that maschine kills my 4k go back and reread. But I don`t think it doesn`t do anyone justice to hate on maschine cuz we are on a mpc forum and the majority including myself are mpc users. Hell even tutor advertises maschine here.

I think that it is up to the buyer.. So I might close this out maybe but I will say I prefer my 4k to maschine not for some update or time stretch, pitch shifting, or any of that I discussed that 20 pages ago until Jahrome snuck back and started beating a dead horse again. I prefer my 4k cuz of my workflow and ease for building a groove. But that is subjective cuz saintjoe, knocksquared, lotuz and alot of other cats can bang with it so I wouldn`t call it a wack machine. It just depend on the user.

If a new user picks up maschine so be it as long as they can use it. MPC doesn`t mean music straight the box if the people haven`t spend time and effort with it either.

I don`t know I never hated what another man used to make music. I just was interested in whether the music was good or not. Cats are making bangers on maschine along with mpcs of course and if the workflow fits you are not is the issue in my book.

Roland MV has all of the features cats are complaining about but no one is running out to get one.
