I'm really not feeling this XL 2.0 business. He is pulling away from what the MPC is supposed to be--- chopping & sequencing. Now the MPC is for mixing? Being used as a rack sampler w/ multi-timbral?

AND I was just noticing today,, recent versions of XL are HEAVY on the processor,, all kinds of slow-downs. Especially when I go into trim mode while a sequence is playing. Not fresh.

it doesnt pull away from anything! you can still use the mpc exactly like you do already and not touch any of the new features.

i for one use the mpc live and being able to control volumes of different tracks from a midi controller is something that ive wanted to do for years. hopefully filters and pitch and mod control will come too.

imagine if akai had that attititde when roger linn came along " sorry but your taking away from what drum machine's all about.. why do you need to seqeunce other midi instruments and sample sounds, preset sounds and internal sequencing is all you need"

I know I'm just being selfish cause I use it for a certain thing,, it's true. Everybody uses the MPC for something a little different. Some day imma go to Japan and have him design an OS just how I want it

i've seen your posts, you're a clever dude for real but who defined what an MPC is supposed to be? compare a 60 to a 4000, or a 5000 to a 500.
jj in general from the beginning was a break from what an MPC is "supposed to be" as dictated by akai.
anyone from 2003 earlier would probly say that any mpc with grid edit is a break from what an MPC is supposed to be!

IMO AKAI mpc1000 os 1.07 was a break from what a MPC is supposed to be - no chopshop and sh!tty sequencing!!!! even w/ their akai 2.01 os, there was that bug where you couldn't use the "move" function in step edit cuz that shit would break your sequence irreparably.

yo is the 5000 even multitimbral?! i don't know. don't really care, either, but it'd be hilarious if it is NOT. another "129" to wave under akai's nose

9. The move method of the cursor in SAVE mode was changed.

The upper cursor movement was changed into the [SHIFT] + cursor key.

I don't have my MPC right now. Is that change a shortcut to go right at the top?

Aright chill,, I know,, I got emotional for minute back there

But I'm probably not the only one who feels this way. I looked at all the "amazing" new specs and I was like YO NONE OF THIS IS FOR ME,,,,,,

pgm 129 can be used anywhere its only relevant if you want to switch to it using a program change.

On track 10 it will switch to the pgm assigned to the value of 129.

as usual pgm numbers and program change numbers are freely assignable though. so pgm 129 need not be assigned a pc change of 129

Well at least there's no charge to upgrade that we're aware of... so even if it's not currently for you, at least you can get the features in the future if you need them later :).

I think you are right though... the 1k is starting to slow down and just chug in places... some of that code probably needs to be tightened up a bit...

in the meantime, can anone explain what the track10 and notes24-35 from this page are all about: http://www7a.biglobe.ne.jp/~mpc1000/os2xl_20/multi.htm ?? i'm not understanding what these have got to do with multitimbre

Not having a system to test in front of me to test, I believe the important part there is that the MPC is transposing notes for you when you have your track in DRUM mode. Without a reason why, my guess would be so that you can play A1-D16 on an 'average' keyboard without having to mess around with the octave up/down settings on your keyboard.

"Middle C" I believe is usually defined as Note 36 (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong)... so that's A1 -> However many keys you have on your keyboard. Usually there is an octave below middle C, so you can get at least 12 notes that would otherwise be unused if this transpose didn't happen.

So my guess is the logic goes like this. If you use middle C as your starting point for A1, and you're on a 61 key, keyboard, you can only play about 30-40 of the keys to trigger the MPC 1k,. By moving the D bank to be below middle C, you've now opened up more playable notes without requiring somebody to do a ton of work on their keyboard. Remember though, this feature is only activated when in DRUM mode, so you can always switch to MIDI or another mode to disable it.
