Hey All. I just bought an MPD24 today from a dude on Craigslist for $50. Pads and knobs work great, the catch is that the faders are just, like, GONE. I cleaned all the kool-aid stains from the units little crevices and what not (he said his little cousin got ahold of it and pulled out the faders), and now I am wondering if there is ANY way to replace the fader stick. A search on MPCSTUFF.COM yielded little results because I don't really know what I am looking for. If there is no hope, I won't be completely heartbroken, because I can still use the pads (my 1st Akai product and I love the way the pads feel) and the knobs, which seem like they can be assigned to function as faders themselves in my DAW. On all the DJ mixers I have ever owned, the little metal part sticks up from the fader slot and you just put a cap on it, so it's odd to me that the faders are just gone. Anyhow, thanks in advance for any advice or help. Pic below and URL for parts page I was looking at.

I don't know much about fixing mpc's and never used an MPD, however I just looked on MPCStuff at the MPD spare parts section and think you could possibly need:

these slider things.. :?
http://www.mpcstuff.com/mpc-slider-post-switch.html

and these knobs..
http://www.mpcstuff.com/mpc-black-slider-knob.html

That is if that is the problem and the metal sticking up bits are gone, and they are the right parts.
Think your going to have to take the top casing off to find out.

Don't order them as this is just my inexperienced guess. Wait until someone else who knows what they're talking about comes replies, or even better ring up mpcstuff and tell them the situation.

Welcome to the forum dude.

Thanks for the semi-info HP. But yes I need something a little more substantial before I pay 90 dollars for all those faders. I did in fact open the casing and clean it up as best I could. There were a few sugary molten drops of what seemed to be orange kool-aid or something that I cleaned out of the seams and the circuit board. When I opened it up, I removed all of the circuit board screws, but still couldn't gain access to the underlying controls/connections. I am not sure if the board is not meant to come up, or if it was just kool-aided in place. I tried to rustle it a bit left right up down, but with the creaking of the board I didn't want to take it any further so I re-assembled and the unit works like a charm in Ableton Live 8, yet alas I still have no upfaders. I have the distinct feeling, however, that I should be able to lift the main circuit board up a bit to gain access to the pads and whatnot since there are aftermarket "thick" pads you can mod the MPD24 with according to MPCStuff. I was just too afraid to force it, given I had just bought the unit. At this point though I am not sure if I should just cut my losses and use the unit without the 6 faders at the top, or if I should press on and attempt to fix or replace those up/down faders. Either way it was a steal at 50 ducketts and am already very impressed.

how did you come up with that amount ??? ?

6x6 = 36 + some change for s/h at mpcstuff
6.x5= 30 some change for s/h vst service

The knobs are $6 dollars each.. But the dude says he thinks he needs the metal slider things as well which are $15 dollars each.

Wow. At that price. Check eBay. They guy who sold you the MPD is probably selling the nobs and sliders separately. :lol:

What are those faders for anyway? Just assigning parameters to in the DAW? If that's the case then the knobs technically can be used for the exact same feature right? I'm basically out 6 less assignable inputs right? There are eight knobs sitting over there on the right, so it doesen't necessarily break my heart unless the faders did something unique. Again this is my first Akai anything, so forgive the ignorance if it's there.

They provide control over things like levels and are a better visual indication of your settings than a rotary dial can provide. However, you got a great deal on that controller at $50.00. I wouldn't even worry about it.

you could find the service manual and the part number of the metal things and order them directly from akai and i bet you could ge them way cheaper.
