I'm using an MPC 60 with version 3.10 and was wondering is there's a way to convert your floppy drive to a USB.

And I'm still very confused about linking my laptop up with the MPC. Any advice or suggestions on this I'd appreciate a lot.

Thank you

Sorry but the MPC60 does not suport USB and so it would not be possible to convert your floppy to a USB floppy.

There is no reason to connect your MPC60 to your computer since the MPC60 doesn't support SMDI. This is why removable media like zip drives and card reader drives are popular - they give you the ability to port wav files from a computer into the MPC60 memory.

Alright. But I'm still really confused about the zip drives and card readers and how to use them. I'd be very thankful to get away from floppies and towards something more reliable but I'm not as certain using these different mediums. Any help that or advice that can be related would be great and thank you being patient with my childish questions.

What exactly are you trying to achieve?

Midi connection?? audio connection??

There are plenty of threads here regarding replacement drives.

What I'm trying to do is sample/save samples, sequence and make my own backing tracks for songs. My floppies or floppy drive isn't cooperating and will sometimes save then just decide not to load or something frustrating like that.

So I'd like to bypass working with floppies and simply sample and sequence and make these backing tracks for songs and be able to save and load all these. I'm using my MPC 60 primarily as a drum machine.

You say that you are confused about using zip drives or card readers for your storage needs - no need to be. They all work exactly like big floppy drives with lots of space. You save and load exactly the same way using the same commands, with the only major difference being the presence of partitions. Depending upon the amount of space on your storage media, you will have between 1 and 26 partitions, each being 30MB in size. They are labeled as A,B,C thru Z. You can think of them as folders and whenever you go to save or load, you can also specify which partition you want to work in. Once you select a partition, it remains selected until you change it.

So there you go - and there is no need to be hesitant to move away from the floppy drive. Once you have a larger, more reliable storage medium, you'll wonder why you fooled with floppies as long as you did. Of course, if you buy a zip drive and it crashes on you, you'll also wonder why you didn't go ahead and spend the money for a card reader drive. But that is a whole nother discussion ... :x
