You say that you are confused about using zip drives or card readers for your storage needs - no need to be. They all work exactly like big floppy drives with lots of space. You save and load exactly the same way using the same commands, with the only major difference being the presence of partitions. Depending upon the amount of space on your storage media, you will have between 1 and 26 partitions, each being 30MB in size. They are labeled as A,B,C thru Z. You can think of them as folders and whenever you go to save or load, you can also specify which partition you want to work in. Once you select a partition, it remains selected until you change it.
So there you go - and there is no need to be hesitant to move away from the floppy drive. Once you have a larger, more reliable storage medium, you'll wonder why you fooled with floppies as long as you did. Of course, if you buy a zip drive and it crashes on you, you'll also wonder why you didn't go ahead and spend the money for a card reader drive. But that is a whole nother discussion ...
