masek93 wrote:oh man Pete Rock always impresses me to the max!! the whole Petestrumenals inspires me like the one he flipped Minnie Riperton and White gap band and that one beat "A little Soul" was just too much lol.....and if you heard of this producer called "Fat Jon" that guy amazes me....if you take your taste of hip-hop to Japan you'll find a lot of surprisingly dope artists there. Fat Jon is american but signed to a japanese label....hip-hop was always kept real at the land of the rising sun.

oh in my opinion Dilla is just too over rated but that doesn't mean i don't like his ish.

Fat Jon the Ample Soul Physician is dope
i got his album "3582 situational ethics" with J.Rawls, and his solo LP "Afterthought:." (Libyus Music)
speaking of japanese producers i got to mention DJ Krush
the "stepping stones. the self-remixed best" LPs are dope as hell ("instrumental best" and "rap/vocal best") and the album collaboration with Ronnie Jordan and Guru "Bad Brothers" is dope too
Petestrumental is a classic
i got this intrumental LP: http://www.discogs.com/Pete-Rock-CL-Smooth-The-Main-Ingredient-Instrumentals/release/1445737
and this: http://www.discogs.com/Pete-Rock-The-Surviving-Elements/release/417521

Smurfs on Shrooms anybody? When I heard that beat for the first time, I was like man.... this fool was definitely on some another level when he was making that beat. Then when I heard the sample.... I was totally flipping out.

This is the sample:

I really like the room JD created in this track. It really sounds like he take you to the best hearing position on a live gig.
The reflections of the drums fit really nice to the delay stuff that is already in the original sample. Great track

That joint is bananas :D

I think Tom Scott's Today for Pete Rock's Reminisce is my favorite. I've tried to recreate it for practice, and I still can't figure out how he filtered certain parts of the chops given the SP1200 and basic EQ he was using. I saw an interview where he said parts of "Ahh Ahh Ahh" vocal weren't as thick as he wanted and he got a mic and did some "Ahh Ahh Ahh" himself. Pete's Rock's the Don.

I like "one in a million" by pete rock & c.l. smooth I can't recall the original track, its on my hard drive but great work- not to take nothing away from dilla but, he's over emphasized. I think the 45 king, the track masters, sir jinx & the bomb squad was dope too.but the thing is when they were banging, the producer wasn't the star,so the names are not known like they are today.but the real hiphop heads know who they r.

Tough to say my favorite flip, but No ID's "man's world" for Beanie Sigel smashes JDillas if you ask me. I feel like I'm the only dude who thinks JDilla is overrated.

for someone who's over-rated, his name be cropping up quite often

...and that's why i said that i feel like i'm the only one, d!ck rider.

how much did you hear about jdilla before he died? yeah, i didn't hear sh!t about him being the best or none of that. most people never even heard of him! then after he passes (RIP) the whole internet loves him and he's the best. fvckouttahere.

i like jaydee, he's just overrated to me. not in my top 10 producers, sorry to all you little hard-ons.
