Man, I just can't create anything good or think of anything these days. I'm having trouble spotting samples and it seems like I just can't find inspiration. How do you guys get out of this bs?

For me I have to not over think things. Step away and clear my mind even if for a few days or a week or so. When i come back I go against the grain. if I've been sampling a lot I'll opt instead to compose and use the synths or vice versa. I just try to remember to not force it. Sometimes I may be on for months but when it's not on I chill.

I once had a writers block for like ever I think it was a little less than a year. I still kept at it trying to write all this uninspired bs and I think thats why it lasted so long. When I look back I realize that year was one of the worst years of my life so my heart wasnt in it to create. I eventually stepped away and cleared my mind then i was back on. It's tough to explain though because a lot of times being creative helps me get thru the tough times but not that year.

You can't force it, take a break.

Do some other stuff.

Come back revitalised.

Inspiration comes from anything. Try to disconnect yourself from your daily routines and try to see things from a new perspective. And don't try so hard in making beats, let the beats make themselves, your job should be to nurture them like plants as they grow. In fact smoking some bud will do or some salvia.

this is the way for me; it broadens my thinking and approach, and keeps me excited and inspired about music. world, folk, jazz, whatever really -as long as it's something i'm not familiar with. it's like gaining knowledge is an essential part of the creative process.

you can end up spending 12 hours on a beat and not feel it. in the right frame of mind -maybe after a couple of beers, you can come up with the themes and basis for maybe 6 tunes in a couple of hours.

sometimes it helps when i make music with my friend - we are super competitive on the mpc and take a few seqs in turn to try to out-do each other.

i prefer to work on my own on arrangement as this requires time and concentration.

Yeah it helped merv drop one of the hottest beats I've heard from him.....

When I have a block, I usually watch beat documentaries, unplug my setup, re-arrange all the gear, and start from scratch by only sampling like 3 second one shots off of 2 random vinyls untill i've combed through the whole album once or twice, for some reason that works every time for me. Then again I havent released anything made since summer 2010, everything I post here or for mixtapes (excluding battles) is years old, cause I'm i a style block, I've shelve all beats and keep exploring my creative styles trying to be different. Because of this I have fun. Don't look for loops or samples go look for sounds that are 1-3 seconds and just mess with them, kinda like a challenge, once you start messing around you'll flare up again and find yourself right back to normal digging for full samples. Right now it just sounds like you're forcing it, which I think we all do after to long without breaks, it becomes more routine than creative.....

here you should already know what to do with this, just for exercise
