I want to thank xparis001 again for the time he is taking to come here and answer our questions.
I was the guy he was talking about who asked him about the MPC5000 update, and I got his reply after less than a day.

that said, I don't know how much I trust that Akai is listening. other people and I have been asking the same question through official ways (website, twitter, facebook...) for the last 3 weeks without getting a clear answer like the ones xparis001 gave us.
I now understand that they have just started putting resources in the communities, social networks and so on, but the past is hard to forget.

anyway, I trust people with real passion in their work and if xparis001's example is the beginning of a new way Akai is going to deal with their users, well... then I guess we might hope for something good coming our way.

on the other side I hope Akai will understand that if we are taking our time to report bugs, suggest new or better features, ... it's only because we love the product we bought and we want to help them to make it better for us, and for all the others that are using it or are going to buy it.
now that Akai have strong competitors in their own market with "similar" products of very good quality (ex. Maschine), they should try to value things like this.

Alright guys. Hopefully this isn't regarded as a threadcrap haha

So the MPC Fly, you know the thing that looks like it's attached to the iPad, only has 4 tracks? I'm honestly irked about this, because I thought there would be MUCH more functionality within the software to be able to have more than 4 tracks. I say this because I'm very interested in buying the Fly, but if it only has 4 tracks to work with, I have an MPC 500 and a great computer to work with that would essentially make the Fly not a contender.

I really hope Akai is listening because I think that with more tracks, the Fly can go from good, to completely feature rich. I'd be much more happy with 8 tracks instead of 4, but for me that's kind of a backwards thing. I usually do a lot of fingerdrumming on the MPC 500 which is why I love the thing, and why I'm sure I will love the Fly. I hope I get some kind of response on this because 4 tracks just doesn't cut it in my opinion.

Thanks xparis001 for being open an honest with us.

I'm extremely happy to hear that your still supporting my MPC 5000 as I was under the impression that Akai left us high and dry.

I look forward to this update with anticipation and welcome your new product line with an open wallet. :D

p.s. forum trolls/maschine spies let the man breath and don't ruin a good thing.

for first release these will be edit functions like on the MPC2500 / 5000 / 1000, so you'll press a button to activate the command, and you can undo it through multiple levels if you wish. Realtime is something we can work on for an update in the future, but we want the core to be strong first, before we add to the spec.

The app is still in the planning stages, but the 4 track thing is well noted. We may do a pro version later and have the 4 track version be artist branded lite version, but that's probably more than I should be saying right now ;)

(so dont ask who just yet!)

also, remember, the Fly is CoreMIDI, so any coreMIDI app will work with it.

there are just too many whys to be honest lol

why did akai never complete the os for the mpc4k
why did someone representing akai (scd) request a bug report for the mpc4k and then do nothing
why did akai never come out with a new os for the mpc5k since version 2.0? you say its on your radar but frankly thats lame....its almost THREE years ago since 2.0 was released,,,and that, only cos just blaze ripped your product to pieces
why did jj have to make the mpc1k and mpc25k what they are today?
no 64 bit support....another fail
original mpc1000 blue pad upgrade...another fail.....

you say youre incorporating features x,y,z on these controllers based on feedback from users on the forums, on mpc3000 users....how comes ya never did nowt for all the users with os problems...you cant have it both ways... :x

sure youve a big hype on this new computer controller move yourve made....but you have seriously screwed up concerning stand alone mpcs

think about this.....a lot of people who may possibly buy these new products...are current standalone mpc users....who have been neglected for ages now....

you say you have no resources to have your own forum, yet you are releasing a bunch of new products, not only the mpc controllers

it just doesnt add up

ok, i go crawl under my rock now....

ps i pity the beat testers who buy these products when they come out

pps the rant is not aimed at xparis001, its aimed at akai :D

well, Gerti, you have valid points on everything you said, and this isnt a cop-out, but all I can say is it's my goal to change the Akai customer relations for the better. I've been with the company for 8 1/2 years. I came up from Tech Support, then into project management, then finally, as of about 3 months ago, I'm Product Manager. I'm working to improve us on all accounts, that's why I'm here. We're better than we were when we started, and I hope in a year, you agree with me that we've changed further for the better.

till then, thanks for not making it personal! :)

Your feature requests? Hmmmmm...which ones exactly. I think quite a few people can claim the same thing. :P

Good post with great questions. Thanks for mentioning the 5000 update that's long overdue. I asked xparis001 if he could divulge any update details and I didn't even get a "I'm sorry, I can't release that information", so it's nothing personal but given Akai's history with (not) updating MPCs, I don't believe they give a sh*t about the stand alone units at this point. I don't know what's involved in OS programming but I know it doesn't take 3 years to fit bug fixes into your project schedule... if you've actually put it IN your project plans to begin with. I don't believe there's any reason why Akai can't integrate the stand alone MPCs (including the 4000) to work with controlling at least some parameters of the upcoming software in a 64 bit environment. If they truly care about keeping long time customers, this is something they should definitely look at.

What I think would be great is if AKAI really got to know how users are using their MPC's. I think this is really important. Coming to the forums is a good start in my opinion. You don't have to search for too long before you start to understand how users are using their MPC and what would make their workflow easier and more intuitive. I'm sure you'll find all kinds of people on here from one extreme to the other. In the end, everyone is here because they want to get the most out of their MPC and use them... sometimes they run them into the ground. The point is that I don't think you will find a better place to get feedback on the product. I think it would be wise to listen to the folks on here and show some loyalty to your customer base and care for the product the same way that they do... Welcome to the forums!
