Hip Hop hasn't shaped the MPC, the MPC as a tool has shaped Hip Hop. Big difference.

And yes, plenty of other genres use MPs because in essence it is a sampling drum machine/sequencer. The main reason a lot of non-Hip Hoppers moved away from it was because software became so powerful and more flexible.
Now is the time IMO for Akai to welcome back those producers into the fold. When the new line is marketed in Europe I think they should spread their wings further than Hip Hop, that's the point I'm trying to make.
I would have liked to see DJ Shadow, RJD2 and Madlib on that list, but from a UK perspective I would like to see well known Akai/MPC users like The Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim, Bonobo, Mr Scruff, Underworld and others. That's not even mentioning all the D&B legends and up and coming Dub Steppers who I can imagine getting down on the Ren.
