MPC Ren is slightly wider, lower profile, and shorter in length...and of course half the weight of the MPC 3000.

Actually it was for the number key placement and the pad layout. Remember earlier the talk of the position of key mode buttons like main, shift and others.

Akai did a very good job with the design of the MPC Ren. I really like it. The only suggestions I have for improvements is the headphone connector on the front because it protrudes out. It would look cleaner if it was flush like the MPC 5000/2500. And the second thing is....wall warts. I hate those things with a passion. But I know trying to squeeze in a power supply unit would have made it slightly bulkier perhaps.

Hip Hop hasn't shaped the MPC, the MPC as a tool has shaped Hip Hop. Big difference.

And yes, plenty of other genres use MPs because in essence it is a sampling drum machine/sequencer. The main reason a lot of non-Hip Hoppers moved away from it was because software became so powerful and more flexible.

Now is the time IMO for Akai to welcome back those producers into the fold. When the new line is marketed in Europe I think they should spread their wings further than Hip Hop, that's the point I'm trying to make.

I would have liked to see DJ Shadow, RJD2 and Madlib on that list, but from a UK perspective I would like to see well known Akai/MPC users like The Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim, Bonobo, Mr Scruff, Underworld and others. That's not even mentioning all the D&B legends and up and coming Dub Steppers who I can imagine getting down on the Ren. 8)

Of the list of names, I've genuinely not heard of these guys... probably half the list like I said.

DiVinci, 88Keys, Jukebox, Kalil, Kay Gee, Scoop Deville, Sean C & LV, Tommy Brown, Battlecat, Bangladesh, Drum Squad, Jazzy Fey, Shortee Red, DJ Toomp, the cataracts.

Although there's a good chance I've heard their music at some point. 8)

Same here! I have heard of most of them but not all of them. BTW, you have to know Kay Gee. He's Naughty By Natures producer.

These are the ones I haven't heard of. I've heard of Hank Shocklee from PE, but not Keith Shocklee.

I think it was something to do with internal timing resolution? He declared the 4k and 3k to be the kings in this respect... 4 samples or less deviation between quarter notes. Nice. :D

My bad. Based upon your comments it seemed you didn't actually own an MPC. Which one(s) do you own?

I think they could make the style where the "wart" part is in the middle of the line... leaving a regular sized plug at the end.. that would be nice.

here is an example of one for another product

In other words, I've seen numerous feature requests from you where you also talk about a true hybrid with everything possible from the controller (including waveform editing).

I missed this one.

I believe I know what my own feature requests are. The MPC Ren is nearly identical to what my dream MPC is...regardless of what you feel my dream MPC is. I can honestly say I am very happy. I hope that Akai makes some tweaks to the OS and hardware to appease people that are not as happy as me....so we call can live in bliss.

I can't wait to take a pic of me and the MPC Ren going for a walk. Nitred (MV Nation Forum) posted my pic in every thread mad at the world when Roland discontinued the MV-8800. Those MV patches are not selling like they use to. :P
