...the Ren is just plain ugly? they tried to mix a vintage look with a modern look and came out with blahhh, i hope they make a better looking one for the release, lights are cool, but what the hell, that thing looks like girl or little kid's mpc or something, the specs so far don't impress me either, anyways pink and green lights mixed with gray and white red is just not a pretty color scheme, who designed the damn thing, i don't like the look of the mp60/3000 mix with a 5000 it just doesn't match right

I think it would look better to you once you see it close up. At least that is what several forum members said when they seen it at Namm.

As far as the specs, what is needed to impress you?

Yeah, it is pretty ugly. But I tend to not care what a beat machine looks like as long as it's dope and not over the top looking like a Beat Thang. I think the original MPC 60 is ugly. So is the SP1200, as well as the blue and red 1000 (which I owned). And I never cared for the "Akai Tan" color either. But it really doesn't matter! Still dope gear!

If it was left up to me.....

1. Black finish like the MPC 3000LE; use a paint finish that is resistant to finger prints

2. Two colors for pad LEDS. One color to let you know the current selected pad, and the other color to flash according to the note data recorded in the sequencer.

3. Place the headphone amp completely inside of the MPC instead of having it protrude slightly. The headphone volume knobs would be moved to the top located near the main volume knobs.

4. Move the foot pedal outputs on the back of the unit.

5. Instead of the MPC 60 style armrest, I would have went with the front design of the MPC 3000.

6. Slightly larger LCD.

But that is just me being me. My honest opinion is that it looks great. The layout is pretty similar to legacy MPCs...especially the MPC 5000.

Ya Mon, Im not too impressed by the layout/color scheme...
The shoulda put the dang K-nobs of the right hand side, and the pads on the left side, with the screen on centered between the pads and the numeric keys and the scrolly wheely thang<<<whoops said that word again
As far as color is concerned, I have a white Macbook, and it shows filth like no other, so Im hoping that early 2013, theyll drop an all black LE version...

The only thing I'm not keen on is how thin the front edge is.

Too many people in the forum with too many and differing ideas to come to a consensus. And just because someone has an idea doesn't mean it is easy or should be implemented.

For example.....strugglebuggiemusic wants the knobs on the right-hand side. But most MPCs have sliders/knobs on the left-hand side...which is exactly where I would want them. I like the LCD and the pads being in the center...looks cleaner and feel natural to me instead of being off centered.

And besides...Akai did take in alot of feedback from this forum. Read the feature request threads. You will see many suggestions have found their way into the Ren. Didn't you read all the negative feedback regarding not having graphic waveform editing on the LCD of the Ren?

Ya Mon, when I start to really analyze it, its prob-ly better for the pads to be in the middle, that way you can play the pads with yer "rite" hand, and twiddle to yer hearts content with yer "leff"...
Its just like one of those situations when all your friends tell you about this new fine @$$ chick that just moved into town, and all you got to look at is a picture...but when you finally get up close and personal, thats when ya decide if ya wanna push up to her and kick some game...
I know that all these ?'s will fade away when we ALL get a chance to push them buttons in person...

i think the shit looks aight the headphone jack protrusion looks shit though and the pad lig colours look wack but u can turn the lifts off if need be.

but in general i think it looks dope, but yeah the mpc3000 black is the illest

the first mpc 60 is way better then the mk2 that premo has cos that shit looks like an 80's cash register.
