Sample release....

This is probably a newb question but... How do you set it up where the sample plays out but stops when you press on another pad... I tried changing it to mono and note off but it doesnt do what i want it to do..

As in press any pad and it will mute the current one? No. You have a 'mute pad' option for (I think) up to two pads that will perform the function you describe, but you cannot set it up like on the MPC 4000 and up to where you have every pad muting each other.

I hear what your saying bout it dont work on the 3000 but in this video the person is doing exactly what im tryna do on a 3000

but when i put note off on as soon as i stop pressing the pad the sample goes off... in the video when he hits the pad and releases the sample keeps going until he hits the next pad and then the previous pads sample turns off.

4 mono samples are assigned to 4 pads.
each pad can cut off 2 samples;
pad number 13 is cutting pad number 14&16,
14 is cutting 15/16,
15 is cutting 16/14,
16 is cutting 13/14.

From what i have heard in that video (4:35)

With note off (release) you can achieve silence between samples.

set a pad without a sound in it to cut off the pad you want to be silenced. I'm not good at describing where to go to do it because im used to just "knowing". It's the same page where you set it to mono

Yes that's what note off does, it only plays the sample as long as you hold the pad. You have two options for what you are wanting, one of which I already told you:

1. Cut your samples to the exact lengths you want them played

2. Know your pattern and then just assign your two pad mutes wisely. There are NO MUTE GROUPS like in the newer MPC's, there just aren't.

A lot of guys seem to use 'note off' to get a feel for what samples they want in what order, and THEN assign the pad mutes after they figure out an order/pattern so that the notes play the length that they want them to without any gaps.

The guy in that video is using one of those two methods mentioned above.

To edit these program parameters, press the PROGRAM/SOUNDS key, then select option 2:

• The two Cutoff fields: Each of these two fields allows a note number to be entered. When- ever the note selected in the top line’s Note field is played, then any currently playing sounds assigned to either of the note numbers in these two fields are immediately terminated.
This is useful when it is desirable for one sound to cause another to stop playing, such as a closed hi-hat stopping an open hi- hat, or a muted triangle stopping an open triangle.
Each of these two fields allows a note number to be entered (35-98). In each case, the pad currently assigned to that note number is displayed to its right. To disable this feature in either or both fields, enter a note lower than 35 and “--/OFF” will appear in the field indicating that no note is selected to be cut off.
