" it'll just click"

Try searching the Web for 'click of death'. Be sure you are sitting down when you do, it is usually bad news.

mpc3000, that's like a death sentence. i'm praying to God that's not the problem. it just sounds like it wont boot up. my other zips (of course the ones that don't have the midi files i need) work just fine. i was wondering if i could send it to a data recovery place and spend money i don't have to get my files back.

I can take a look at the disks for you. I am the only person anywhere that specializes in data recovery for Akai disks.

My estimates are free and Zip jobs usually run about $20-30. A data recovery house (that is not even familar with Akai formats) charge $150-200 just to evaluate disks.
