Don't know about that, but, I do know that JJ was elemental in the 4k OS! You will see the comparisons soon!

Yup. The short version of the story (which is on these boards somewhere) is that Akai didn't pay him for it, so he decided to get his money on his own. And Akai didn't stop him because his work benefitted them too, in terms of unit sales.

Although I have never talked to him about it. I always assumed he was employed by Akai Pro Japan and wrote the OS (Original 1000/2500) but when Numark took over they did not keep the original Akai Pro employees on board. (Again, this is ALL SPECULATION.) Thus leaving an unemployed guy with a valuable skill.

For sure, the new unit sales for Akai of the 1000s and 2500s are still so stong because of the JJ OS. Without it I am sure that they would have seen a steep decline over the years since the OS was out of date. It would be similar to having a perfectly capable computer still running DOS. Customers now can upgrade the units over time. It also helps sales of newer units (5000, 500, REN, Studio) because people know that these units too can be upgraded one way or another when they are ready to make the change to a newer unit. Its great to see Akai thriving and people using the units still to keep the MPC alive forever.

As far as we know, he was contracted by Akai Japan to write the OS, Numark took over Akai, shuttered Akai Japan, and Akai US didn't honor the contract. So in essence he got paid zero for his work.

wow!!!! damn that really gets under my skin...

i hate knowing i use/love a product that has such an infamous reputation for not giving a ****...and shitting on everyone from employees to costumers.

in summery...if it wasnt for jjos akai and its products would have never seen faithful customers in the long run.

ive known about akai since the internet started....but this just makes me want to send jjos a donation....not out of sympathy but out of respect....he has single handedly built the foundation for alot of todays music.

Well, if they hadn't dicked him, then JJOS probably wouldn't exist...

Anyway, sorry for the derail... Back on topic, I'm pre-ordering this screen as soon as its available! I can't wait to see what JJ does with it down the road...

at first I thought it was fixed position but not it looks like it swivels, im all in now

one question thou, why is the main screen look windowed, talkn bout that blue trim around. is there chance that will be removed with feature update, or is it possible to make it black instead of blue ?
