Although I have never talked to him about it. I always assumed he was employed by Akai Pro Japan and wrote the OS (Original 1000/2500) but when Numark took over they did not keep the original Akai Pro employees on board. (Again, this is ALL SPECULATION.) Thus leaving an unemployed guy with a valuable skill.
For sure, the new unit sales for Akai of the 1000s and 2500s are still so stong because of the JJ OS. Without it I am sure that they would have seen a steep decline over the years since the OS was out of date. It would be similar to having a perfectly capable computer still running DOS. Customers now can upgrade the units over time. It also helps sales of newer units (5000, 500, REN, Studio) because people know that these units too can be upgraded one way or another when they are ready to make the change to a newer unit. Its great to see Akai thriving and people using the units still to keep the MPC alive forever.
