Submit bug reports and feature requests for the JJOS-XL and 2XL

This request is simply to be able to speed up or slow down events in a sequence. So if I have a sequence that just has a hi hat on every 8th note, if I speed it up (compact) by 2x, I now have hats on every 16th note, and the sequence is half as long. If I slow it down (stretch) by 2x, I now have a hat on every beat and the sequence is twice as long. This should be applicable to all sequence events - notes, real-time changes, MIDI events, maybe pad mutes, etc.

I would hope that this would be an arbitrary amount, better yet a fractional amount, so you could make it 7 times faster (compact) or 3 times slower (expand). Or make it seven-thirds times faster :) That might make changing the time signatures tricky, though - maybe leaving the actual sequence length alone would solve this problem.

Note that this is TOTALLY different from simply changing the tempo.

This feature would e.g. allow you to have the same beat running at 2 different speeds on 2 separate tracks, so you could swap between half-time and regular time, or double time just by muting and unmuting. For example, think of the vocals in the chorus of "September" by Earth, Wind and Fire.

For one thing, it would make the pad-patterns MUCH more useful :D :D

yeah, +1, A+, etc. this is a fantastic request, and low hanging froot too, since it's just basic maths that are involved and nothing too too fancy...offline SEQ EDIT stuff is always going to be easier to implement than grandiose "cool idea bro" frs.

great request.

That would definitely be an awesome feature.

I would also be love to be able to reverse events in a sequence. Especially for external midi stuff.

The future retro orb/revolution sequencers have a cool feature that reverses a pattern but keeps the first 1/16th note on the first 1/16th spot in the sequence. So if you had for example a simple 4/4 sequence, the result would still be an in time 4/4...just in reverse. It just keeps everything more musical.

But in the case of the mpc, could be just sequence edit>reverse events and then sequence edit>slide events..or something. But the end needs to wrap to the start.

In a nutshell could definitely do with more midi / event editing tools in line with those you get on piano rolls in most of the DAWs. If any of these already exist pls let me know!

I think this/these would be great too - it deserves its own request, really!

There's currently an offset in SEQ EDIT, which you may have already known. But if you want it to "wrap", you currently have to do it manually: copy the sequence and append it to itself, doubling it, then shift timing and cut it in half again. Kind of like how you wanted to apply reverb or delay to a loop, you would have to play it at least twice, and then trim it down, otherwise you would cut off the reverb trails.

For the stretch / compact thing. I used to have a Yamaha rm1x that can do this on the fly with a knob..it was the best feature ever, that and midi delay (as opposed to audio).

Mpc could definitely take a page out of the rm1x book for midi tools.

Best way I find to do the stretch / compacting is record midi of track to ableton..but with abletons quantized turned off, slaved to the mpc and tempo set as low as possible ( this preserves any mpc swing or offset timing of the sequence and minimizes midi jitter when sped back up to normal.)

Then I stretch, reverse it or whatever and record midi back to mpc using the same process... It sounds a lot more drawn out than it actually is once the connections are set up. But gives the option then to get as crazy as you want with abletons midi tools..

But yeah being able to do it all in mpc would be killer

Ye, i got an Rm1x, ... these functions are cool. I use the arpegiator function, then slow down or speed up the arp sequence with the beat stretch and add some midi delay, plus there are midi harmony functions and some other cool midi stuff.

In my dream world theres an second alternative OS derivative of JJ that cuts all the audio functions down to minimum and puts all that spare processing power into being the worlds best mega powerful midi sequencer focused on mangling for live performance. With all these discussed features and more. Then you could run 2 mpc's side by side one with the usual audio OS and one for midi..fantasy I know but doesn't hurt to dream
