This request is simply to be able to speed up or slow down events in a sequence. So if I have a sequence that just has a hi hat on every 8th note, if I speed it up (compact) by 2x, I now have hats on every 16th note, and the sequence is half as long. If I slow it down (stretch) by 2x, I now have a hat on every beat and the sequence is twice as long. This should be applicable to all sequence events - notes, real-time changes, MIDI events, maybe pad mutes, etc.
I would hope that this would be an arbitrary amount, better yet a fractional amount, so you could make it 7 times faster (compact) or 3 times slower (expand). Or make it seven-thirds times faster
That might make changing the time signatures tricky, though - maybe leaving the actual sequence length alone would solve this problem.
Note that this is TOTALLY different from simply changing the tempo.
This feature would e.g. allow you to have the same beat running at 2 different speeds on 2 separate tracks, so you could swap between half-time and regular time, or double time just by muting and unmuting. For example, think of the vocals in the chorus of "September" by Earth, Wind and Fire.
For one thing, it would make the pad-patterns MUCH more useful
