Well AKAI is under the impression that everybody uses software to compose music now. The selling point is that they're bringing the MPC workflow to your computer. It's a MPC 3k, 60, and 2000XL rolled up in one. You can use VSTs or color your sounds with outboard equipment if you want. You don't like making beats on computer???? Don't worry, you don't even have to look at the computer. You can make beats on the REN just as if its a standalone by using the onoard display and when you're done there's no grueling multitracking tasks.
The Ren's a good idea, we'll see how the idea materialized once it drops.
