MPC as master or slave questions

real world example:
I have a keyboard and 4k.
My 4k is master.

They are midi'd together (not to computer).

My keyboard is not running it's own sequencer, my keyboards midi notes are recorded in my 4k's sequencer.

My 4k and keyboards audio are recorded to my computer daw through my interface, no midi sync to computer (same as you would do here) as I don't care to use a computer sequencer.

So let's say I wanted to use all 8 of my assignable outputs on my MPC 2500, I'll need to buy a external MIDI interface (with 8 1/4" cable inputs)? Does that mean I have to get rid of my steinberg interface

I changed the way you should have made that statement and question. And the answer to the question would be YES.

Like I stated before, check out that tweakheadz website so you'll know the difference between what audio is, and what midi is and what it does.

Now you can go for a multi I/O audio interface that has basic midi I/O. That way you're covered on the audio side, and you have the benefit of having basic midi in/out ports.
