i'm brand new to mpcs and just got a 1000. when i connect the mpc to my laptop via usb the memory card comes up under drive F: and has one folder in it called Autoload, and in it are all the samples/programs etc the previous owner had put on it. i did something wrong with loading or saving and all the files got copied and pasted to the main "level" of the memory card (on the same level as the sole folder). this wouldn't be much of a problem but i tried to delete all those extra copies and a large section of them at the end (47 samples) will not delete from my card and all say they are 0 bytes in size. when i try to delete them it acts as if it's deleting them but the files still just stay there. i've tried doing them individually too and refreshing the window. is there a reason its not letting me delete these files? they seem to be a random chunk of dead data as its just a section of S-named to T-named wav files, no particular grouping is apparent to me besides that. any ideas?

btw when i try to load stuff now it says insufficient memory. i kind of just want to format this memory card and start fresh with my own samples. is there a way to do this correctly

just format the card in the mpc, not from your pc. youre getting the insufficient memory message because youre out of RAM.. im guessing its not upgraded to 128 megs is it..

when you got to MODE > PAD 5 (RECORD) > WINDOW, how much free memory is available.. if your RAM is upgraded it will display "128MB installed"

when i do that it's showing "16MB installed". yikes. how does one upgrade the ram?

ebay, they can be had for as low as $10, it will most likely be a 256mb memory stick stripped from some old laptop, it will work just fine though, the mp will max out at 128mb even though you use a 256mb stick.. just search 128mb RAM MPC..

to format that memory card, in the LOAD screen it should be under the WINDOW button, the option to format, just follow the instructions..

thanks. another noob question though. in that thread they keep mentioning the compact flash card. exactly what does it do and how necessary is it?

I've got a 2gb sandisk flash card and I've installed Toshiba MK1032GAX 100GB hard drive installed too. It all depends on your budget, but I would go for as many smaller flash cards then bigger ones. This way your won't lose much if one gets corrupted or broken. Also you can use the usb to pc function to transfer .wav files to and from your compact flash card as well.

i found this ebay auction for RAM but it keeps saying 128mb... so wouldn't the MPC only read half of that and give me 64mb? or is he already taking that into account when listing it as the 128mb upgrade?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/160697123779?ss ... 1423.l2649

and this one as well. it appears to have the right specifications as far as 133C / 144 pins , SO-DIMM etc

You're right it will read it as 64mb of ram. You need to search for the following for the max 128mb of ram

PC 133 144PIN CL3 SODIMM 256MB

or

http://www.amazon.com/Memory-Upgrades-2 ... pin+sodimm

?
