Even in Sonar you have to preview at lower quality and then render offline if you want the best results. In RX2 Advanced ( Izotopes own app) Radius is every bit as slow so you have to do the same thing. The quality can be high be speed must be sacrificed. In a groovebox or drum sampler nobody wants to watch their idea loose steam while staring at a progress bar.

No part of Pro Tools is coming to the Ren , the Ren won't have warping or audio tracks, and the rendering will be offline. This is not good example.

I'm not saying anything in the Ren will be real-time or lightning fast. You must have missed my point of this whole discussion. I'm saying that since this same technology is used in Elastic Audio and happens to work wonderfully, even in real-time, then this same technology should work just as great in Ren in offline mode! I'm not talking about real-time vs offline or Pro Tools vs Ren, I'm just talking about the actual technology and just giving examples of where and how it is used! And for the record, this radius technology does work just as good at full 24-bit/192kHz quality as it does at lower resolutions and bit rate in Pro Tools, provided your computer has the balls to handle it.

@ hellfire:

stretching a (previously analyzed) audio clip happens in real-time, no doubt. but time-stretching per se can not work in real-time. that was my point.

The algorithm is the whole function of the feature and determines how accurate the audio will sound. That's the most important feature of the function. Avid simply coding the graphics or whatever to make it possible for you to physically stretch the graphical region is irrelevant.

The algorithm only applies to the matter of time and pitch it's not a complete turnkey solution you still have to write around it. It's not a plugin.

The code around that algoritm will dictate what it /sounds like depending on how its applied and how well it's applied. You can look at IRCAM's Flux and Mach 3 and hear great results while other have made a complete mess of it.

But since you want to argue car facts with a certified auto technician

Without another "out of context" rant let's stay within the parameters layed out in my quote.
If you put the tires of an Enzo on standard Corvette will you get the speed and performance of the Enzo. HELL NO! If as a certified auto technician you can prove otherwise i'd like to hear you explanation.
The other stuff you decided to add in on your own is irrelevant because I didn't say Jack about an engines , transmission , Durangos or any things else that you mentioned.

my original quote
You can install the same Bridgestone tires that propel an Ferrari Enzo and mount them on a stock Corvette. How delusional would one have to be to expect the same (or similar) speed and performance from the Chevy because of this feature? .......but hey, you got the same tires as the Enzo. That's gotta be worth bragging about.

That's not arguing car facts. That's just common sense.

let's forget all the analogies and get back to topic.

back on topic...nobody knows about what will eventually be delivered on the REN, even if it will work or not........not even akai do, with the summer running out rapidly....hence the silence from their side...

duhhhhhhhhhhhh

I think Radius can sound great. I simply don't believe it's good idea to look at what another product has done and assume that similar results are possible from a company with little experience.

I ain't mad at nobody.

Yo lets just say that the MPC Ren comes out and its all that, I mean that jawn do all kinds of tricks............................Then what. :P

To be honest, it don't matter what I use to make beats Im still nice, like my niceness travels with me to everything I used, I've used a MPC, Fruity Loops, Maschine, and Logic. I've made nice beats on all of them, and the only thing I've ever used timestretch on was an MPC. So I mean like, WTF. I just don't understand the argument against the Rens timestrecth. I don't care how its done, as long as I can do it.

I love this. Why? Because its focusing more on what the tool will make, rather than the tool itself.
The whole point of the tool is help create easier. As much as I am a fan of the concepts put into the Ren, my concern for it will never overshadow my concern for what I will create with it. Getting the job done is my main concern.

Its just a tool. A great one from what I've witnessed. I don't have any loyalty to machines based on whether they are attached to a computer. I have loyalty to making what I think is good music.

I'm glad a lot of you study these tools. Reading your comments informs me. But I think some of you buy a screw driver, admire it, look at in your hands, and then hang it up on the wall, and never build anything with it lol. And when thats the case, its hard to accept too much advice, because the real world application of your tool is minimal.

The irony? I do care how its done, because I'm an engineer, but nowhere near enough to argue or have long drawn out discussions on it. That doesn't stop me from appreciating the musicianship of the quote. It's good to see that.

pardon my longass post.

Your analogy is out of context to begin with. You mentioned tires making the Enzo "propel". First off, again, tires do not increase your speed. Secondly, if you put the Enzo tires on the Vette, the tires themselves still have the SAME performance ratings and characteristics. What car the tire is on does not change how the tire itself performs nor does it change the quality of the tire or what the tires ratings are. Putting those Enzo tires on the Vette is still going to improve the handling and traction of the Vette. You are assuming that I am implying that Radius is going to make Ren completely like Pro Tools. All I'm saying is if you take the same function from one thing and put it in another, that single function itself should perform similarly.

Anyway, you guys are taking this thread in a senseless direction. The point of the thread is simply to display what the feature could be like and what kind of results the user can possibly expect. All this algorithm bullshit and assumptions that the code is gonna be **** up and whether or not real-time time-stretching is impossible is beside the point!

If two companies use the same exact technology from another company it's perfectly normal to "assume" that that technology will perform similarly between the two.

The Ren with VST plugin support gives you several options for your time stretching and pitch shifting needs. You can use the onboard sample processing (Izotope) or simply pull up a plugin (take your pick) and do it there.

I just purchased Mach Five 3 (that has IRCAM tech) and Autotune specifically to be used with the Ren.

Non-issue.
