Did you have the top casing off? If you have the newer pads/sensors at least you could take some solace in it being like a $40-50USD thing as opposed to $200. I'd be surprised if you don't have the newer ones. Until MPCStuff did the Fat Pads everybody just suffered or used full level.

So provided they're the newer ones, and the sensors are not the issue (really may not be, even the upgraded pads are terrible). So if that's the case it's more of a functional upgrade than a repair. Still costs, but it's like putting high quality tires on your vehicle. You gonna enjoy the ride way more.

Once again good luck man.

Cheers, how do I know if i have the new pads or not?. Any signs that will tell me when I pop to the shop tomorrow?.

Well the pads definitely need replacing after the technician at Absolute Music looked at them, it has the new sensors but the currents ones are screwed hence why you have to hammer them down to play a sound. This is taking into account we adjust sensitivity as well on the Os. Its also explains the weird glitches in sounds as well between the sensor and pad.

CF board is screwed, even he was confused why this happened but I'm glad its that, and nothing more serious.

I'm damn split between sending it back or him paying for the costs and getting Absolute music to fix it.

Seller is contributing a partial refund of £60 and I add the rest myself for the cf card and pad which is fair. It would have been better if this didn't have to happen but feel this is the best solution as the 1000 is in great condition and I have a tech guy who can fix for free in his spare time.

Quick question, but are the pads meant to be that with new sensor?. I don't understand how big a difference between the 2500 and 1000 pad pressure/playing is?.

I have to hit the pads pretty hard to get a sound and this is with the new sensors, is this normal even with the new black version, black panel 1000s?.

Yes this is what I was describing earlier in the thread. When Akai decided to address the issue of the flawed original 1000 pads/sensors they actually just reverted to the style of sensor that had been in every previous MPC. But they still screwed up. They molded the pads so that bottom of the pads and the sensor sheet have too much of gap.

So there's a chance your sensor sheet is fine. Let me ask, are all 16 pads uniform in their triggering behavior? By that I mean, do any of the pads seem worse than the others. (Again I realize they just suck by their nature). If the different pads react differently that usually indicates flaws with the sensor sheet.

That link is NYM's brilliant silicone gap fix. That wouldn't cost very much, and although I have no experience, NYM's demonstrations and feedback from others shows it definitely works.

Or if you want to throw a little more $ into upgrading buy these - http://www.mpcstuff.com/akai-mpc-pad-sets.html (look at the MPC 1000 Fat Pad listings).

I have them in my 1000 and they solve all triggering issues provided the sensor sheet is in proper working order.

Well I'm using the internal memory for sounds, so I assigned the same sound to every pad and I don't think there's any loss in quality on any individual pads.

Going to pad+ other I have to whack everything to the maximum 25 to get 127 velocity for anything and that is even with hitting it hard but not as bad as before if that makes sense.

Going to snag the fat pads but just wanted to check if it fix the issue?.

Yeah it sounds like the sensor sheet is good. What your describing is just how the one sheet 2nd version 1000 pads are. The Fat Pads really do the trick if you don't mind the $40+shipping cost. They respond to light taps, you can actually get consistent triggering even on the corners of the pads.

Cheers, the only reason I ask is I do alot of finger drumming on my 2500. The 1000 is my goto choice since I'm going on a move and also as a midi controller for Ableton.

I appreciate the advice mate and thank you for the help:)

My pleasure man. You'll love the Fat Pads even more if you do a lot of finger drumming. You'll miss those extra q-links and tilt screen. But like you said you gain portability and you have a jog wheel that generally works like it should. :-D

The jog wheel is a dream, I was surprised how much better it is than the 2500.

As for the Q-links I only ever used 2 anyway on the 2500 and the tilt screen is nice but I'm more than happy with the 1000 and size. Plus the pads are smaller for my asian hands so its actually in theory be better for me in playing the pads.

Again going to make an order soon, and thanks man. Also have to get the paid JJOS again, so used to XL than anything else is just poor.

Oh you had XL before? Then you're used to sacrificing q-links and a pad layer here or there. Fair trade off. :-D

guess i'm quite late, but i also have these glitch problems on my mpc 1000 when i play the samples... however i already ordered the new pads, think they'll arrive soon.
still i wonder: if the glitch sounds come due to a pad problem, why would they be there even when i recorded a phrase (so not only when i hit a pad)?
i could send you a sound example. its this high metallic sound when i hit a pad. its no distortion, nothing clips at no point.. it's there even if i change decay and attack values.
kinda helpless.

Open it up, take out the ram, put the ram back in and make sure it's seated correctly. Try again.
