Note - As of OS 1.0, only the Program Mixer has outputs.



That's it? Only 8 stereo outs? That's kinda wack! Maschine gives you 16 stereo outs. Reason gives you 64 stereo outs. And they only give you 8? C'mon son!

Or does having a mixer with send/insert effects per channel with automation plus the ability to export 128 tracks audio files make this a non-issue?

I don't like exporting audio. I like to do all my pad mutes live, instead of editing them in manually with the mouse in Pro Tools. This is also why Maschine's drag and drop feature is useless to me. I've seen people talk shit saying that Ren is a Maschine clone and then turn around and say Ren is wack because it doesn't support drag and drop to your DAW like Maschine does! :lol: But I could care less if Ren never got drag and drop because I'd probably never use it. But more than 8 stereo outs is definitely a must. I don't understand why they would limit it to such a low number, or even why NI limits Maschine to only 16. :hmmm:

It is 8 Stereo outs (1+2, 3+4, 5+6, 7+8, 9+10, 11+12, 13+14, 15+16). There are no mono outs as of 1.1. I certainly would like to see the Ren support mono channels.

As to why certain features are limited or absence altogether.... :hmmm:

But I would love to have these over anything else:
1. Audio tracks
2. Realtime timestretch/pitch shifting
3. Sample Record Mode Insert Effects
4. Full MIDI control via hardware
5. Manual slicing from hardware/software
6. Event List/Grid Editor from hardware
7. Sample Edit - select waveforms via pads (Program Audition)
8. Zoom In/Out from hardware
9. Auto create keygroup options: # of groups & keys per group an starting note range
10. Eliminate plugin popups; fully integrate into MPC software like Reason Racks

Well, you can make mono outs. Just set a mono sound to an out and pan it hard left or right, and set your DAW's audio track to record from that channel. So for example, Kick and Snare. Set both pads to outs 1+2. Pan the Kick hard left (out 1) and the Snare hard right (out 2). Create two mono tracks in DAW. Set one to Rens Out 1 and the other to Rens Out 2. Track.

Pro Tools will let you choose only one channel of a stereo out if you want. So I'm not really concerned with Rens lack of mono. Just the amount of outs. 8)

Logic will send both channels to a stereo aux. The aux can then be routed to a mono track. I don't see anyway to record two mono tracks for the Kick and Snare in this situation without multiple passes.

Hmmm! Not sure. I never used Logic. Try it in Pro Tools. Bring Ren in on an Instrument Track. Create two mono audio tracks. Set the audio tracks' input to "Plugin -> Channel 1" for the first one and "Plugin -> Channel 2" for the second one. No need for any Aux tracks. Let me know if that works!

Also, in Logic, even if you pan them hard left and right in the MPC, you can still just record them both on the same audio track in Logic, and just split the audio track to two mono tracks after. Just set the audio tracks' pans in Logic to the center so you hear both drums out of both speakers (audio track pans are post record). In theory, this should work as a work around if Logic won't allow you to record Rens stereo outs to mono tracks.

EDIT: NVM. Forgot there's no RTAS support! Scratch the Pro Tools idea! :lol: Unless you have the VST-RTAS wrapper.

But I noticed something odd and it applies to Maschine as well. When using Plugin as an input for an audio track, why is the first stereo channel of the plugin missing? I looked on You Tube and there were some reports of the something.

Plugins are made to use the software instrument channels so naturally the stereo outputs aka 1-2 are assigned to the software instrument channel. However you can assign the software instrument output to a bus and then assign the bus to input of the audio track I believe. But the rest of the outputs can go to the aux tracks.

In logic once the audio from Ren has been bounce or exported to audio and import to logic audio channel you can set a stereo track to mono in you wish by clicking on a plus/minus button on the audio channel. But aux channels don't have this function and doesn't bounce.

Yeah...but that is annoying. It would make sense to be able to route any of a plugins virtual audio outputs to the inputs of any audio track. This is a limitation of DAWs. DAw manufacturers should take a page from Propellerhead. Reason is a beast at routing audio.

Equally annoying is DAW's like Logic can't route audio to plugins while Pro Tools and Studio One can.

I am in the process of selecting my main DAW. I own Logic Studio and Pro Tools 10...and just downloaded the demo to Studio One 2. I am not really feeling Logic's illogical ways of doing things. Still trying to grasp Logic's Environment.
